I have some nuisance critters around the house that need to be dealt with. Namely a family of raccoons who keep finding their way on to my roof at night and are trying to break into my soffits when they're not having UFC throwdowns right over my bedroom at 2 in the morning. Trouble is, I live in a place where there are neighbors all over and shooting stuff with a "real" gun is generally frowned upon. So I'm looking at some of the high powered .177 and .22 air rifles out there. Anyone have any experiences with them? Pros, cons, suggestions?
They can be quite loud . That being said I’d go with the 177 as they are a bit quieter Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I thought about it, but not sure I feel like firing a 400+ fps crossbow from the ground toward my house/roof. Plus, I've wanted an excuse to buy one of these for awhile. Just not sure what to get.
Common misperception of crossbows...they all don't shoot 400 fps...OH WAIT,, I shoot a Compound bow again, nevermind, lol!! My son has a Gamo air rifle that we bought at Richards (D1cks) sporting goods that has taken care of plenty of small critters around our house. I think it was a little over $100. I suggest using it on a windy day to silence it a bit.
Yeah I have a gamo with a scope and a hair trigger but it is loud, but the range is a fraction of a 22 so there is that.
I have a Gamo Whisper Fusion Series in .177 not sure how it would do on a raccoon unless you shoot it between the eyes, but it will take down squirrels and rabbits without any trouble.

Amazon just like everything else, but only because I'm at the gym and can't think of anything smartass to say

Only recommendation I would have is .22 cal rifle. Little bigger and at least in CA, you can hunt turkey with them.
Here ya go..... Although it might be as loud as a 410 shotgun. But if you're gonna get one, go big! The Airforce Airguns Texan model launches .45 caliber projectiles at over 1000 f.p.s
