Hi, I'm doing an OTC DIY black bear hunt in VT this year and I'm going to start scouring the land looking for the food. Dose anyone know if there are any mast crops this year? Hard or soft.

Thanks this is my first black bear hunt and I'm just looking into areas I should focus on. " like power lines for berries or river beds for choke cherries, ridge tops for beech nuts. Any help will be appreciated.

I don’t know about this years crop but I’ve hunted bear in western MA a number of years. Focus on the areas you listed all of them will have bears if the food is there. If you are hunting early season corn fields can be a great option as well, it’s simple but any food near a water source is a safe bet. Best of luck
