I’m new out here in central Missouri and am really looking to link up with other hunters, find good areas to hunt, etc. I got out here sort of late in the year (thank you Army for having me report 5 days prior to the opener) and don’t have the time I would normally take to prep. Any advice at all would certainly be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I am assuming you are in the Leonard wood area? I live in Smithton and hunt out in the Stover Area. This will be my first time trying to take a deer and turkey by bow. I can't wait to get out there.
I’m at Leonard Wood and I’m excited about getting in the woods as well!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I used to be stationed at Leonard Wood. There is some good hunting around there. A lot of National Forest bordering the installation. You can hunt on the installation itself but you have to buy extra permits, constantly check which areas are closed for training, etc. There is some National Forest land off of J highway near Jerome between St. Robert and Rolla. There is a Missouri Department of Conservation area near Dixon that doesn't see (or didn't used to anyway) much traffic during bow season. It is called Rinquelin Trail Lake CA. That should get you started anyway.
Hopefully someone helps you out being that you are serving our country.. I've heard alot of good things about hunting in and around military bases. Goodluck I hope you have success
Check out areas 8-9 on post the company I work for did some work around there. There is definitely an abundance. Seen a good ten myself. I also spoke to a soldier that was heading in to that area to hunt. He showed me some trail cam pics of a couple 140-150 class deer. I bought my permit to hunt on post, but never got the chance last year.
Update. I bought an 80 acre farm south of Salem, MO. Thanks all for your encouragement. I’ve already planted 3 food plots and am currently getting about 300 pictures per day between the three cameras. Hoping to have some luck this coming season. Downside, I haven’t found a single shed on my property this spring... Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Probably just means you have a healthy herd of squirrels.. Congratulations of buying a farm, that's pretty country around Salem.
Thanks for the encouragement!! Got some big ones walking around down here!! I posted them to a forum. Let me know what you think!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
