I would imagine if that dog owner doesn't take responsibility for his dog and keeps it from chasing deer, it's going to end up dead. I could never do it, but I know guys who have and won't think twice about shooting dogs that chase deer. I unfortunately run into dogs chasing deer a dozen times or so a year because one of my main properties borders a Reservation which is littered with half-feral dogs.

Our animal control won't do anything unless the stray is after people or livestock. So, lots of folks around here follow the SSS rule.
A former coworker is now with the Kentucky department of Forestry. He claims to have a bunch of properties in Northern KY that need the deer thinned. He's going to offer my services to landowners when the topic comes up.
