What are the chances of Bucks moving and killing one in a tree stand in 24-30 deg F Temperatures? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
My last 5 sits have been in those temps. I have had 11 bucks, maybe 12 ( might have been a shed buck) in bow distance. With 3 of them being a shooter to me. What I did was find some big tracks coming from a food source, then followed back to bedding. Then on later days when I moved in to hunt, I set up just out of view from bedding, in between bedding and food. Works like a charm for late season. Key is pick a tree with as much cover you can find. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Not sure if the question is honest. Plenty of states get or have previously gotten a lot colder than that during season. Late season hunters experience those temps and are happy for them up here. Wait OP is from Ohio ...its not like you are in Tennessee.
Remembering back 30 years ago, I'd bowhunt in -20. Didn't have $ for stands so would just sit on a branch. Can't even fathom that now.
24 to 30 degree,s is about 1/3 of our season here in Wi. Nothin to fret about-- in fact this is a big bucks favorite time to move here, with heavy coat this temp range is very comfy for them ! I have bow hunted up to minus 25 , must keep muscles limber then to be able to draw string back, also enjoy listening to birch and popple tree,s pop !!!!
That would be around (-5 c) I would suggest allot of guys around here that hunt rifle season rut would say thats too warm, myself included Of coarse Sask is way different then where you are. Last few days have been (-40c which is also -40f ) deer have been feeding around dusk as they usually do.
The best buck I've taken have been on low temp ,deep snow and little snow bright sunny days. Best buck seen have been in blinding snow storms. It depends on the local herd, terrain features. Wind directions in said terrain, doe population and food available.
This thread is old but man it was funny. Don't bother hunting when it's cold out. Deer never move, they are always curled up by the fire. If you can find there fire though that's where you want to hang your stand.
