If I were looking at a budget 1911 I’d be shopping Springfield or better yet I’d look used for a higher end brand. For the money you can do a LOT better than Kimber in their price range. I have a Dan Wesson Guardian and love it. There are no MIM parts and the trigger, reset, barrel/bushing fit, and the slide/frame fit are all as good as anything I’ve ever seen on full custom 1911’s. It cost just a hair more than a mid range Kimber as well. I also put a pretty good ding in the finish with a tungsten ring and sent back to them and they cleaned it up plus refit the barrel/bushing without me even asking for it and had the whole thing back to me in about 2 weeks.
keep in mind the OP was asking about 1911s from Cabelas...since he has a $200+ gift card. The only Dan Wesson I can find on Cabela's site is $2000. You can almost buy 3 Kimbers for that. I'm not saying Kimbers are as good as a Dan Wesson, but that's a pretty big cost difference. Sota, don't forget Bass Pro takes Cabela's gift cards now as well. Just keep an eye out for sales at both and you'll find something you like for the price.
I work right on the other side of the freeway from Cabelas in Rogers, not driving all over to look for a pistol I don't have that kind of time. I am not limited by budget constraints but I am not looking to spend a bunch of $ either for something that will not get used much or try to impress others. I also will not be carrying the gun either it will be in the center council of the truck or on the nightstand.
didn't know if you lived close to a BP or not; but I believe that Cabela's and BP price match each other regardless of who is having the sale. I live about the same distance from both and get both flyers in the mail; my observation is BP tends to run the better pistol sales. If you see something you like on BP's ad it would be worth a phone call to Cabela's to find out if your local one does price match.
Didn’t realize they stopped carrying Dan Wesson, last time I looked they had a few. That’s a shame, a lot of their stuff is in the $1200-$1400 range but apparently not at Cabelas anymore. With that said there are a ton of Springfield, Colt, and Sig 1911’s for reasonable price points. They also have a ton of higher end used stuff in their online Gun Library.
Well that was short lived, my loving bride wants a hand gun and the concealed carry. At least I will go gun shopping vs appliance shopping.
So would it be wrong if the first month my wife owns the gun that I just keep blanks in it? You know just in case.
So I get home tomorrow the purchase card from the county is there going to drive back and get the wife her own 3" taurus judge have two boxes of buck shot loads, probably going to burn a brush pile and shoot the pistol tomorrow night.
I have the special field 870 and 1100 english stocks and double beads, admire they way remmington could build a shot gun that could fit millions of gun owners.
I always admired the way a Remington fit. I love shooting a pump gun and still do to this day. I never owned a the 870 but shot a few over the years. It always felt natural when I picked one up. Felt like I have been shooting one for years. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
If you like to and can tinker, I’d suggest a base 1911. Easy to upgrade to what you want. My carry gun is a Rock Island that my son and I have improved. He has 8 or 9 1911s and none of them are any better than my RI, including his Remington or Kimber. If you’re interested in carry, check out the SOB holster. Best I’ve found.
rock island really does not get the respect that they deserve. for the money, they are pretty tough to beat.
I ended up getting the Judge today went with the 2-1/2 pretty tough to get 410 loads in 3", still debating the remmington they had was all engraved up.
