I am looking for the fastest 27" draw length hunting bow? Looking for real world numbers. Also what is your hunting arrow setup? I am looking at getting another bow and it doesn't have to be a new bow it can be a few years old if it is the fastest. I like to draw around 65lbs but can draw 70lbs. Thanks for any help.
IMO you can have a hunting bow OR the fastest bow. And to answer your question I have no clue on bow speed. I haven't chrono'd a bow since 1982...it was 187fps.
I shoot a Hoyt Charger at 26.5" draw @ 68lbs with 500 grain BEA Renegades. The sight tape says it is 262.5 fps but I have never chronographed it. I don't really care. Arrow momentum and pass-through kill deer, not arrow speed. I have missed deer shooting over top of them because I aimed too high, but never had one duck out of the way with this set up.
Fastest Bow out there that I am aware of is the PSE Full Throttle at 370 IBO. I tested one about a year ago that worked out to 366, so pretty close to what they advertised. Obsession makes speed bows advertising 360 IBO. I have not chronoed and tested one.
I would go to google and type in "fastest bow" and press search. Then take their advertised speed and it into this calculator with your specs for "real world numbers"
PSE Full Throttle has the fastest IBO. It’s less than a 6 inch brace. I’m shooting a Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo with Z5 cams @ 27” 358 grain arrow , 70 pounds and it gets 308 FPS. Fast enough for me. My Obsession Evolution same set up as the Hoyt gets 1 FPS faster but has limb stops and doesn’t feel as nice as the Hoyt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Obsession Lawless is also a 370 IBO, super aggressive draw cycle but much more pleasant to shoot than the PSE.
I remember an interview with a CEO of a compound bow company, think it was Pete Shepley. He said, most companies have prototypes shooting well in excess of 400 fps. But they are mere "apprentice pieces", because unpleasant to shoot, and even harder to sell.
