Today had our 3 annual kids learn to ice fish. It was brutally cold. Numbers were low (20 kids) due to that. Once we got to the lake it was -15 degrees. Thankfully no wind. We had plenty of shacks for the kids to fish in and the fact that they were catching a few fish helped out a lot. We also got one pike on a tip up, which a bunch of them have not seen before. Overall a good day. I’ll post some more pics later but until then here is my beard from the morning lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Most excellent! Funny but, why do us adults whine n complain when it's that cold yet the kids seem to have a ball?
I’m going to dales resort on lake of the woods in a couple weeks they’re sleeper houses are decently priced but not sure how big they have them
Finally made it up to Lake of the Woods last weekend. Between 3 of us we caught 50-60. Lots of them were 11 inches or so like you mentioned MnHunterr but enough were larger to make it fun and to bring some home. Largest was a 24” walleye. My biggest was an 18” sauger. Even caught a couple after dark which doesn’t happen often on that lake. We got a sleeper out of Adrian’s. Fished 14 miles out. Tried Fish Tales bar and grill in Squaw Lake on the way home. The food and service was good.
Fish Tales is one of my favorite bars in the entire state of Minnesota. Had so many fun times in that place. Their waffle fry breakfast is to die for (saved my life numerous times after a night of drinking).
Haha nice. I remember you recommended that place last year so we tried it. Unfortunately we didn't get there early enough for the breakfast but the burgers were really good.
Fish house hot dogs. Bury the truck 4 miles out in the middle of Mille lacs. Get it out after a 3 hour battle. No stove top, no hot dog pokers. Only thing we had was an old rod... break it off and it makes a great hot dog cooker on the portable propane burners. Gas station white loaf bread and ketchup. Can’t beat it. 3 hours to get the truck out last night and 3 hours to get the truck and house off the lake this morning. What a crap show. On the bright side I did catch my personal best walleye last night at 4am. Just a tad over 26”. Unfortunately my buddy was passed out cold so I couldn’t get a pic. Won’t be back to Mille lacs this winter. Was a real good year out there for us though. Crappie and sunfish time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was the story of every ice fishing and ice castle page I follow yesterday. So so so many people got stranded in the blizzard. Not good when there is slush under the 2 feet of snow with 50 mph winds. Saw resorts posting about rescues all night long. People stuck with no gas, propane, etc. Moral of the story... Always be prepared. When you think you’re prepared, be sure you’re more prepared than what you are. A lot of people from the ice fishing community came together and rescued tons of people. A lot of them it was an actual dangerous situation. Trucks with plows weren’t enough... People were reaching out for help to people who had tractors, skid loaders, or commercial snow blowers. Heed the advice of resorts you dumb dumbs. Every resort knew this was coming and advised people to get off the lake before it was too late. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
