New to the site and forum. Did a lot of Bowhunting with my sons when they were growing up. Gave it up for a while, but getting back into it as I slow down my active medical practice. I sure hope people over 50 hunt Elk. I am 65 and trying to plan a trip as we speak. Using a site called Book Your Hunt. Has a LOT of outfitters. How do you decide? Any advise or suggestions appreciated.

I'm 64 I run 4-6 miles 4 times a week, Mt bike and hike for one reason. To archery hunt, especially elk but also deer and antelope. My son's hunt with me when they get time off and I have a friend that's 63 that is a excellent archery elk hunter!
Shoulders. My dad was a rabid bowhunter until his went out in his mid-50s. He still goes out with a cross bow but as much metal he has in both knees and both shoulders he gets cold real quick. Can't handle late fall temps anymore.
There are a group of archers from Oklahoma that go to Colorado every year, most of them are over fifty and some on their sixties. Cannot wait for the opportunity to go with them. One week hunting with them will take you from a beginner to a seasoned hunter, mostly bc they're so salty..

Better to be quiet and thought a fool than speak and prove it true? You need to come down and go coyote hunting if you’ve got time to calculate that! Cabin fever is getting to ya!
First hunt I was 49...used a rifle and found it too easy. Switched to a compound bow immediately and now at 59 switched to trad. Got a couple stickbow said and committing to hunting with em in the Kaibab this season. Fingers crossed.
