Well I ended up seeing all the usual suspects last night, does and younger bucks. However, i did see a nice spike. I know right, a spike? So as some here may know I have a few piebalds on my place. This spike has white boots! The lower 6" of each leg is white, kinda cool. I have dubbed him "Boots". Should be fun to see him grow!

Well folks, it was a fun season! Really enjoyed this thread and following along with you all. Time to call the dawgs and wiz on the fire. I am collecting stands, washing clothes and packing the gear away today. Sniff. Best of luck to anyone still at it.

That's it for me boys. Season loses here on Sunday. I've been very focused on swimming, and with it's gigantic time commitment I've only been able to make it to the tree a handful of times since it began in December. I put a lot of work into college stuff this year, and it took quite a bit of time. This season has been time-management hell. My increased standards of what I deem to be a shooter coupled with busy times led to a very humbling season for me - my first season not killing two bucks (let alone one) since my first year bowhunting some 5 years ago.

That said, I had a hell of a season...I'd go so far as to say my best ever. Despite my non-hunting commitments, I was able to spend a hell of a lot of time in the woods. I made it up to galena a bunch and had some absolutely incredible encounters and experiences. This year I saw the biggest buck I've ever seen while hunting at 90 yards out in the cut corn chasing a hot doe. I had more bucks in range this season than any of my previous ones. I was given so many opportunities to see gods creation and do what I love, and I'm proud to have stuck to a standard.

I saw this coming - this being the unfilled tags and empty freezer. I'm not ashamed of it, as I learned more than I could even tell you all just by being there for the experience.

My wild high school days of going tree-to-tree every fall for an unhealthy amount of hours are coming to an end very quickly. I'm sure I'll be able to hunt a little in college, but it won't be the same I'd assume. That said, I look forward to the challenges and excitement that it will bring, wherever it takes me. Finally, I just wanted to thank the great guys on this forum for electronically raising me into the hunter I am today. Yeah, that sounds really dumb... but it's absolutely true. There are so many awesome people on here that are really helpful and equally dedicated to the sport. You all have sped up my learning process more than I'll ever be able to explain. I'm not going anywhere yet, and it's not like I'm leaving the forum...but I just wanted my appreciation for so many of you to be known. Congrats to all of you who put down great animals this year - even the "slobs" lol.

    Love y'all.

You too Shane. Get the most out of your schooling! It's THE most important time of your life, I promise. Hope you're around here for next season.

Sometimes when you just keep walking you run into something like this on a skinny ridge. Thicket with great buck sign that forced into a funnel.[IMG]

Seen on another page. In Wisconsin. This is crazy. I guess i could see him surviving if gut or lungs were somehow not touched. FB_IMG_1547768265868.jpeg

Sounds like you had a great season, way to stick to your standards/plan. You will have plenty of time to hunt after college, hopefully some during college. The biggest thing I regret in life is not getting enough education, so make it count young man! Good luck, and have a lot of fun too!

Could very well be true but def had me thinking. Deer seem to be able to overcome some things i hadn't thought they could have.

Yeah. Body systems run on pressure. And when there is a gaping hole there is no pressure.

Alright back at it again for the 3rd try on this public land thing. Now it's a mission to get a deer! I moved up the ridge alot closer to were those bucks have been bedding. I feel I'm within 75 yards. Took my time and went really slow the last 100 yards. Feel like I got up in the tree with out busting anything.
