My first year doing it and it's pretty awesome. If you get to go and have ducks fly in and you get some rounds off your normally hooked just like I am now.

I was over in duck hunting chat and boy from what I saw ppl ain't so nice in there. We are spoiled on this website. I was looking around at ppl asking for good public areas to check out and whatnot and they just get reamed on for no reason lol. Anyone do some aggressive wood duck hunting. Looking for some guidance with duck hunting such as calls and what not if anyone is willing to share some things they wish they had known when they first started duck hunting. Thanks.

Never really targeted them but small creeks with corn fields along it have been gold for me!

Some things I wish i knew when I started..scouting is absolutely the most important thing. If you are where the birds wanna be you’ll beat them up pretty good dang near every time. Hide is next... and your spread and calling come after that. IMO people put way too much thought into their spread. We usually just throw them out in a general shape and once we have birds wanting in we can adjust them and nit pick to put em front and center... calling helps with that too. Good luck!! Try not to spend too much money

So I’m looking a picking up a boat this year. Not looking at spending a ton of money just wanting a open floor and ability to hunt a couple people and a dog.

What are you guys running as far as size and type of boat along with motor. If you have pics that would be awesome.

Here's what I've been running for 3 years now.

Never painted the motor, I didn't want to paint a brand new motor so just always covered it with burlap with some grass zip tied to it, but now on it's 3rd season I think will be painting it this summer and going to attempt to make a better grassed cover.

I’ve blown both. Both are good calls. Easy to blow

Man I’m done. This is the worst migration in Illinois in 30 years according to surveys. Illinois has become a corn desert. If you don’t live in the top third of the state you don’t even see anything. No habitat and the bulk of the migration has moved west. I’m just going to get set up to crappie fish in the winter and Maybe head to Kansas once or twice a year. It was good when it was good.:bigcry:

What kind of water are you running in? I’m torn if should go with a outboard or a longtail setup. Some of the sloughs the longtail would be be great but I could make a outboard work.

Glad I moved to WI. Champaign wasn’t producing ducks. Now I have some good areas within a half hour to hunt and could get to the Mississippi within a hour if I wanted to.

I can drive north and kill some on the Illinois/Mississippi Rivers but it’s not a fraction of what it used to be. You can smash honkers in WI. I bet you’re covered up in them right now huh? Nvm you don’t have to answer that. :whip::sad:

I know a guy in ohio that by this time every year they have probably killed around 500 geese. They've shot 12 so far and 0 ducks.

Def a tough year this year, migration is slow by me as well and the mild weather in NY has made for a pretty slow season. I feel each year that passes it gets tougher and tougher.
