Well that was fun. A ton of walking but found one good spot. Seems to be in the right area to get away from other hunters.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I somethings that caught my eye this year in your pics and I made some mental notes and hypothesis:

Rub line is below the ridge line (below military crest even)... and I noticed these on south or west facing slopes. I suspect for warmth and/or to better catch scents from thermals or prevailing winds. Earlier in the season I did find scrapes and tracks at the top of some of these same ridgelines - I sat overlooking some but I think they were being worked just before light or just after.

Water - moving water I often find tracks, but seldom find animals drinking. I think they are trying to stay hypervigilant, especially on public land, and favor still pools or ponds, so they can hear.

Last pic, can't tell if it was foot traffic or runoff that disturbed the leaves...does appear ti be some browsing the though.

First pic is a narrow ridge bordering a private thicket. Good ways in and decent sign. Nice trail leading through the thick stuff.

Last pic was actually the best area I found. No sign of other hunters and probably a good mile in and at least 400 yds from private. Two trails combine right where the soft and hard woods meet. One goes downhill toward water and the other skirts downwind of thicket. Dozens of rubs of all ages. Used annually during the rut and it is a south facing slope.

Learned over the years that having a ton of options really benefits me where I hunt.

when I find crap like that it's always so deep in the woods I'm like "WTH how much do you have to hate yourself to drag something heavy like that so deep"

That stand had 0 cover on top of that ridge. I would rather hunt from the ground than hunt 8 feet off the ground with no cover.

WOW. I give you a ton of credit for shooting a fox with your bow. I've never been able to draw on one without them busting me. Beautiful.

Yup, but sometimes you find a trail which you didn't know existed. Usually, about 13.7 yds away.

I was wandering through some nasty mountain habitat in the NC mtns found a nice ladder setup...right near a horse trail. Wth?!

Day 2 scouting was a good one. I love finding then ridges better flanked by water. It creates a very nice funnel.... Great sign through the funnel. Plus I found a new ground blind. Lol

Best part about that ground blind is the fact that the deer are already used to it.

It was a close one. He was trying to walk towards me and he actually caught my movement. I froze and so did he... I didn't hesitate much longer after that and was lucky enough to get a good shot.

Finding that old car must have been a real treat! Can you imagine how many deer must have walked past it over the many years? :tu:
