I’m out tonight in the stand I shot my buck. I got in perfect until my lifeline was frozen to tree and my prusik knot wouldn’t budge I looked up and saw two fat nanny’s run and stand in the field and then walk back in the woods. First doe I see is dead. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Happy New year guys. I have been out but have not seen a thing other than the buck a week ago. Probably only get out one more time as we are done on the 6th.
So I have had this discussion with my buddy several times this year, half jokingly and half dead serious. What do people who don't hunt, do for fun? Do they just sit at home and wish they knew how to hunt? Do they sleep all the time? During the summer, when there is nothing in season, I get so stir crazy. I just don't get what people could possibly be doing to preoccupy their time.
I’ve often times wondered this myself. I have tons of friends that don’t hunt and all they do is sit at home and play video games...they think I’m crazy being outside all the time hunting or fishing. They also don’t understand how I can deer hunt so much and only kill one or two deer a year instead of every time I’m out. People just don’t understand what hunting is all about. Finishing up my lunch hour and reading the news and this is what is hot off the press today. https://www.wthr.com/article/peta-calls-end-live-animal-mascots-after-sugar-bowl-showdown
That's one of those situations where I understand someone would want an end but they are never going to get it because the public loves to see those mascots and it will take something so terrible to happen for any change of that level to happen!
Happy Friday guys. After work I am taking the dog for a walk and setting out 6 total cameras that have fresh cards and batteries. My planning for next year begins now and I think it is going to be a great year already. I would like to keep my food plots pretty much the same size and shape as last year, as I found them fairly easy to hunt and access, but possibly try out new seed blends. I am looking to upgrade my bow, but it isn't too high on my priority list as I have some upgraded accessories to put on and I shoot the bow fine. One big thing that I would like to do next year is put less pressure on myself to kill a quality buck, I get enough stress from work. I am planning on several out of state trips in 2019 including a first time out of state turkey hunt (unsure on state yet), SD mule deer, CO elk, and hopefully the BHOD get together pans out and I can make it to that. 2018 was a great year for me and I'm glad I was able to share a small part of my hunting experiences with you guys here online. You're all a bunch of killers!
I would like to add another property this offseason. People around here don't like door knockers, so I send out letters asking for permission to hunt. It's like a mini resume selling myself. My permission success rate isn't awesome, but it only takes one person to say yes. I also want to take my micro plots more seriously. I've just been winging it for the last couple years. Turnips kinda worked the first year and clover was a complete failure this season. Soil tests and actual work might be in order... Also, I don't know if I will actually go, but my dad wants to setup a family hunt in Illinois next season. I would rather do Wyoming or Montana (where he lives).
I'm back in stand waiting for a doe. Entering my last week for the year. Deer in this spot seem to have disappeared the last week or so. Maybe with this weather change they will return?

He is buddies with the owners of Illinois Whitetail and Waterfowl, so probably somewhere around them. White County??? Illinois is just too expensive for me.
