    Happy New Year guys!

I'm heading down to a farm that still has standing bean stubble to see what comes out.

    Good Luck everyone!

Just got done walking some public land about 10 minutes from my house. Probably walked a mile in. Found a good spot and a little more looking someone had a stand there already. Then I thought to myself if I ever shot a deer back here I’d never get it out. I have no desire to drag any deer that far and with no atv on public forget it. I did find another spot not as far in that had 3 rubs in there. I’ll be going back up again when I get time. Time to start getting ready for 2019

Here's the result of my hunt tonight.

The bucks were too busy playing grab-ass and didn't get close.

I'll get it posted in the next couple of days. 1546383358239.jpeg

Congrats foodplot! Very nice and a great start to your 2019 season. I started 2019 with a little striper fishing. On the fourth or fifth cast I landed a 27" fish and then we proceeded to put the hammer on them. Kept 6 to eat and released the rest. All but six of them were over 20" Waiting to get pics off my buddy's phone. :)

Hey Ash, I know exactly what you're talking about...but dragging a deer out isn't the only solution. If it's legal in your state, quartering a deer and packing it out in a backpack is pretty easy. You can also bone it out and leave everything else in the woods. You can actually do this without gutting the deer and not leave any of the meat. I hunt alone most of the time and have a game cart in my truck in case I need to get a deer out and when I'm going in deep the backpack is in my truck. I'm no spring chicken but can still get this done if necessary. Then there is the other alternative...carry a frying pan. :)

I have to agree with ya JGD. I'll find a way to get that dude out if I'm fortunate enough to harvest him. We have a game cart too. It is the only way we can get deer out on the managed hunts we put in for that are in the county parks around town.

Good job foodplot like others have said you’ve logged some heavy time in the woods, congrats. I may have to look into one of those game carts. I’m not sure if quartering out is legal in NY may have to look into it. I need to get back up to the public and look around more. There are 2500 acres to look through. So that’s where I’ll be spending my free time weather permitting. I still have 2 private properties to hunt just looking for more options.

    Appreciate it, ash.
There is no doubt that options are good!! I'm very fortunate to have quite a few private spots to hunt that are very close to our farm. The wind isn't always "right" for our place so it is nice to a few places to hunt.

Good luck scouting. I love doing that on a new place. Maybe you'll find a few sheds while looking around.
