Got the doe, but no bucks guys. We just got back home, so I’ll try to update my story and get my doe added later tonight or tomorrow.

I'm going out Saturday evening. Anyone plan on going out over these next few days before the new year?

    Doe is entered guys.

Long story short on the buck, for some reason I am second guessing myself on ranging deer at full draw instead of just sticking to my instincts. He had came in on my right, I came to full draw when he was behind a tree. When he came out from behind the tree he turned and headed to my left. He walked across almost half a circle before I could get him to stop in an opening. I’ll back up here to say I had already ranged all the way around me and knew my ranges. There was only 2 big opens passed 20 yards, so I knew if a deer was standing in any of the other big openings, they were within 20 yards. So we’re the buck stopped I k ew was 20, but right before I shot, I second guessed and said he’s at 30... I ranged where he was standing afterwards, 23 yards... The arrow hit high, and I saw the arrow fly upwards when it exited and go about 30-40 feet behind him. We trailed him for about 250-300 yards till the blood stopped. From the way the arrow exited him and the heir of the blood on the trees he was going thru, we decided that I must have hit the top of the spine and the arrow ricocheted up. We’re comfortable in saying he’ll live to grow bigger.

I’ll get y’all the story of the doe later tonight....

    For story:

I had shot that buck about 7:55. After he ran off, and I didn’t hear him crash, I decided to just for about another hour and then slip out. At 8:05 I decided to do some more aggressive grunting. It wasn’t 10 minutes later I could here deer on the ridge across the slough from me. I spotted 4 does headed my way. When the front doe got about 30 yards from me, I drew as she was walking behind a tree. She stopped about 3 feet from where I had shot the buck, so o knew her yardage this time, lol. Well she never presented a shot, but the second doe stepped in the same opening as the buck but about 5 yards farther out. I let one go at her. She ran about 75 yards and piled up.

I took my oldest out this afternoon. The River Bottom I have been hunting was too flooded to take him in. Game and fish floods a slough upstream for the duck hunters. The flooding had carried downstream to where I have been hunting. We ended up setting on a ridge top at the other end of the WMA. I was hoping that the Slough being flooded would have the deer up in the ridge top. We didn’t see anything. Saw two deer on the side of the interstate driving home. He had fun blowing the grunt tube my brother got him for Christmas.

Congrats on the doe! Sucks about the buck but hopefully he will live and you get another shot at him.

    We’re confident he will survive.

Seen 7+ does this evening behind my house. No bucks though.

You have more staying power than me. At this point in the season any mature buck is fair game for me!!!!!
