Got good news today. I will be on vacation next week. At least this administration and USDA leadership are granting leave during the shutdown. I never understood why the didn't in the past. I will be in the woods next week!

Nice buck! This is why I don't like the late season due to shedding. A buddy shot one and the buck ran into a tree but from the shock of the hit both antlers fell off. I am still after a buck but I have came down with a nasty sinus infection and can not stop coughing. I guess my body wanted me to stay in Florida! I have until Jan 20th so I am still after it but the clock is ticking. I will not be hunting tomorrow since I will be going to try and pass my last section for my Lieutenant test. Crossing fingers!

Good lord, that's a great one. Congrats!

Its crazy to see the number of big deer coming out of MA these days. After hunting 20+ years in the northeast it doesn't seem that any of the other New England or NY regions are producing big bucks like that as consistently as MA. Congrats again on a great deer!

    Matt,
There have been some slammers shot in Mass this year.... more mature bucks than I can ever remember. I am in Berkshire County. Right on the NY line. People from Eastern MA (Boston, Cape Cod) used to swarm out here to gun hunt. Orange behind every tree. Some harsh winters slowed the hunting way down and the Eastern part of MA became where the big deer were being killed. They still kill far more big bucks out that way, but the quality of the big woods mountains bucks out here in the Berkshires has gone way up.
If you have a chance, go on FB or Insta and check out Bowhuntmass page. They post up a ton of them and you can see some whoppers. Zones 1,2, & 3 are Berkshire County.
I have seen a huge uptick in big bucks on my camera over the past few years. Not sure if it's my spots or just a trend in general.

I got my illness in check for the most part so will be in a tree in the morning. I have to get this done by January 20th but I see we need a lot of help to get the three peat. We can do this!

Working on it. It's the late gun CWD season now in Northern IL but I'll be back after it tomorrow. Half rack was alive as of two days ago, and weather will be perfect tomorrow. I've got my fingers crossed.
