Nice and crisp this morning! Looking forward to this evening. Gonna make a move and setup where I have been seeing them cross at 30 yds.

Got denied from my #1 yesterday (UW)... this really isn't my year. Takes the wind out of your sales quite a bit but I cant sit around and mope for long. I was absolutely shocked but maybe that is my own ignorance. I've got to make a new plan, like it or not.
    Anyways,
Good wind for me today... headed out for my first sit in a month due to sports. This Big one is becoming a regular which has me kind of excited.

Just be careful they ain't bucks. Seen a lot of reports of bucks shedding already. Have a couple guys here in NC who have shot them with the blood holes also seen a post about Illinois, PA, and VA. Has me tempted to slow my roll on targeting anymore doe this year. Just a thought. Happy hunting.

It's been a while, but I'm out here watching nature. Haven't seen anything yet, conditions are perfect minus the full blown bright ass moon last night.
I want a doe but after seeing that dudes doe with a fetus I'm kind of torn. I know of a pack of 6 running through here, most likely take one of them.

So most of you guys are aware of how my season has gone this year. Put a bad shot on a pretty good 8 pt first week of November (fortunately the deer lived, had pics of him a week later). I had a 150ish 4yr old that I obsessed over and tried like crazy to kill from Oct 1 thru middle of December. Saw him twice on the hoof, both times within 150 yds but was locked down with a doe. Once the rut tailed off, he went almost exclusively nocturnal and I felt like I had over-pressured that place.

I got permission on a new place back in early November but didn’t have any history with this property whatsoever. It looked promising but I was more focused on the other place where I had stands and cameras out. The new property is 120 acres of mature hard woods, cedars, and about 50% waist high crp. No ag crops on the place but a great big wheat field to the North.

Normally this time of year I’m hunting close to food sources but I decided to set up on a big pinch points about 300 yds south of the wheat field. Thinking that I might catch a mature buck making his way to feed just before dark. I went out midday Saturday, did a little scouting and found a great spot to throw up a pop up ground blind. I set it up and brushed it in back into some cedars the best I could. Usually I would wait a week or 2 to hunt out of a new blind set up to give the deer time to get used to it but it’s late season and I thought, what do I have to lose?!

I climbed into the blind not knowing what to expect but brimming with excitement! Around 4:00 two doe came by from the direction I was expecting them to come from, the young doe came about 8 yds from the blind before she saw it and spooked. They went back the way they came, made a circle and came back behind me in the cedars to investigate. About 5:20 I noticed antlers coming thru the same opening that the doe came thru about 30 yds away. There was a large cedar about 20 yds out in front of me so that was my window to draw my bow while he walked behind it. He stepped out at 17 yds, and stopped for a second or 2, looking at the blind. As I was getting my pin settled behind his shoulder, he spooked and jumped back behind the cedar but didn’t run off. I had to let down. He was on edge but stepped back out at 23 yds, broadside, slightly quartering to me. I was already drawn again and as soon as he stopped i settled my 20 yd pin and let it fly. The shot sounded good and looked good the way he reacted and took off running.

Gave it 15 min and went to try and find my arrow. Couldn’t find the arrow but there was dark red blood with bubbles in it making it very clear that the shot was fatal and he was bleeding out of both sides. About 80 yds later I found him laying there with my arrow sticking 90% out of the exit wound and my broadhead was gone. Basically the arrow had penetrated both sides, but hadn’t passed all the way thru the other side but was working it’s way out as he ran.

He’s not the biggest buck I’ve killed but I was more than thankful for the opportunity to take him, especially this late in the season. He is a trophy to me and I couldn’t be happier! I hunted extremely hard this season and learned a lot.

Stay after it guys! It’s not over until it’s over!

    Nice buck!

Nothing for me today, saw 6 doe, 1 or 2 may have been button bucks, but no clear shot and I have no pressure to put anymore deer in my freezer.
I may get 1 or 2 more hunts in before I start breaking down my stands for the off season.
