Probably won't make it out next Sunday. Grandkids have a Christmas program at church. I am on vacation again the week after Christmas. Planning on lots of stand time.

can't wait to see more pics Andrew! Congrats again!
another respectable buck and a doe or just a couple more does could put us back on top.
    Good luck everyone.
I'll be out w/ smokepole this afternoon.

IMG_0450.jpeg here he is hanging. Didn’t weigh him but his body was huge.

Little bit of history: This was on a property that can only be hunted after gun season. The landowner and his family are gun hunters. He was telling us last year about a ten pointer that they were chasing, probably 140-145. No one ever caught up to this buck, but he was estimated to be at least 4 1/2.

Fast forward, this year we get in after gun season and see a lot of does and little bucks, and one fat 9 pointer. My buddy watched him the past two nights, and figured out that it was the buck from last year. So, I decide late Sunday afternoon I’m going to slip in to a spot we had made on the ground. Just a couple of chairs in some light brush, with picked corn in front and a clear cut behind. At 4:15, I see this buck come out across the field about 900-1000 yards away. He walks halfway down that tree line, then turns and head straight to me. He was taking his time, feeding and walking, I didn’t think he was going to get to me by dark. I put out some doe estrous, and when he got about 150 yards I think he caught the scent because he made a beeline straight to it, then came walking broadside at about 25 yards. My main video camera died when he was coming in, so I grabbed my phone and held it between my index and pinky fingers, drew back and stopped him, I release, and he takes off, chest to the ground and falls at about 75 yards, gets back up and runs out to about 200 yards, and falls over.

I’ll post score and pics later this evening when I get off work.

Also, this is my third buck shot on the ground, with a bow, on a Sunday afternoon before church. Haha, maybe I just need to start hunting like this exclusively.

    Congrats Andrew, great buck!

Still after it guys. Hunted the last 3 days and finally saw Half Rack last night. He popped out and went the wrong way following a group of does. He’s been pretty consistently on the property for a couple weeks now and I'm hoping he's there to stay for the late season.

Right now most of the deer are eating leftover beans from when the farmer harvested my fields. I need a bit of snow as ground cover to drive them into the food I’ve got standing and then I’ll stand a better chance. Until then I'll continue playing cat and mouse to see if I can catch him when he pops out in the evenings.

A quick still shot from the video camera.......

I saw the coolest thing Tuesday. A melanistic doe. I was driving to work when I saw her. She was beautiful! I've spent over 40 years in the woods and never before seen one.
