Over 20 does this morning and one spike...and he wasn't even near the does. Wish the secondary rut was running a little hotter.

There’s about to be one less squirrel on this earth. If he keeps freaking out he is gonna get skewered!

You see the damndest things on public land...

I hear all sorts of commotion coming down the hill and then a buck running from my left to right maybe 50yds. I got the rifle up pacing him and touch off a shot...and he barrels off. I'm almost certain I lead him and missed. Not sure why he's running full bore.

A few minutes go by and I get up to verify no blood...as I'm getting up a tote flies down the same trail...followed by somebodies dog.

Clean miss. I eventually followed tracks and made as big loop. Checked out a new area when I jumped 2 deer. And saw two more before calling it a day.

Set up on edge of a field wind is right a little disappointing no tracks in the snow. Maybe there waiting for me to get in my stand before they come through.

My son and I are out with the muzzleloader. We both have buck and doe tags and freezers empty. Hoping something shows up

    Day 69 of archery season.
I have started to try communicating with the squirrels, seeing if they have any insight as to where my big buck is. After a long tedious barter of info for trail mix we began to reach an understanding until one of the squirrels called trail mix, gorp. I shot that little sob, I cant stand the term gorp. Plus, mine also has chex mix and M&M's.

You cant trust squirrels. Try oppossums. They are too dumb to lie I've found.

Well the wife gave me the go ahead for the morning because what we had plans fell through ha. Going to the farm where the big 10 is and hunting it after work. Easy to sneak in there late and it’s closest to me. Then tomorrow morning I’m headed back to the stand where I seen the big tall mystery deer the other day. Fingers crossed.

I’m paying for my transgressions, this evenings hunt went the exact same way it has all season long. I’m seeing deer every night working the same dang path roughly 150 yards away. I only have one stand, and I figured that if they were that close, then something would come my way eventually. Well i have had a grand total of two deer within bow range, all season. Neither of them were legal deer, but I had a good 30+ sightings 100-150 yards away. Tonight’s big letdown was an awesome 8 point and a decent little 6 both walking that same trail and leaving me kicking myself. Lazy scouting during the off-season is to blame.

With the general hunting season now over I am switching to a ground blind and moving closer to where I am seeing these deer constantly. Come January i hope to have better patterned the deer and finally connect with one.

8 pt snuck in behind me. Hurried shot. But good blood from there. Problem is it got into standing corn. Gonna let it sit overnight. [IMG][IMG]
