Tell me this....

I did a small amount of bowhunting in the early 90's, haven't done any since. I am interested in getting back into it, but have a question. Back then I shot right handed. I am left eye dominant, so is it possible to become proficient, as far as accuracy, shooting right handed? Left hand feels weird.

 

You can be accurate hanging upside down if you practice enough.

 

I'm sure you can do it with things like perrys no peep sight or anchor sight and still use your left eye. However i think that would be more of a pain. Get a 50 pound left handed bow and learn. Plus you know how cheap you can pick up left handed bows?

 

I've been watching the classifieds in my area for months, have yet to see a lefty.
I'm thinking that's the way to go, since I have till next fall to get used to it.

 

I recommend you switch. I am left eye dominant but shot right handed when I first started hunting. I had troubles when in low light situations my dominant eye wanted to take over . I decided to switch about 20 years ago. It’s the best thing I ever did I don’t do anything left-handed but after plenty of practice it is natural now. It took about a year to get used to it.

 

Start out shooting with the dominant eye closed, no big deal it is just target shooting. Then you practice with the one eye shut then open the other eye and focus before you shoot. Just takes practice.

Simply shoot with one eye, no big deal...super easy fix.

 

I'm a southpaw and know that shooting with your dominant eye has it's benefits. I can shoot a bow right handed but my groups are not as tight since I'm left eye dominat. Once you practice some it will come naturally.

 

I’m left eye and left hand dominant, I shoot a right handed bow. It’s what I started with 10 years ago and I don’t plan on changing now. Accuracy has not been a problem for me.

I was in the same boat. I made the switch when I was about 18 years old. always shot a gun left handed am left eye dominant but always shot bow right hand and right eye. I ended up switching to a left handed bow and glad I did. It will take some getting used to. Practice a lot!

 

A buddy of mine had to learn how to shoot left handed when he had an injury that made shooting right handed too difficult, he now shoots left handed when he is right handed and right eye dominant. He closes his right eye to force himself to use his left eye for aiming and doesn't have an issue at all...also, he is proof that you can learn to switch to shooting left handed despite being right handed.
