Been a slow morning. Just 2 deer. Spike and a fawn. Both in chip shot bow range.

Was hoping the snow would have them moving. Guess the big boys have their dates locked in the bedroom

Congrats the the guys that have killed!

I am absolutely dying to get out and hunt but I don’t want to just go out and kill a doe for the sake of killing a doe! My wife is pretty much don’t for the season so I’ve hit a wall and just living through the threads. Is there anyone in northern Indiana that has room on their properties lol. I’ve been trying to find something fairly close to home over the border but unfortunately no luck. I would absolutely love to get out and chase another buck.

I'm out. Not how I envisioned vacation going with pouring rain. Running to the store now then hoping to be back in later

Hearing some optimistic stories from a few here at work that were out over the weekend.

What a weird rut it has been, been a bit eye opening for me as well.

Past few years we have asked for temps like we have had and a lot of us have even had snow for a good amount of time.

Deer gonna move when deer gonna move, just have to be there when they do. One big game of chance when hunting the rut rather than a specific deers' pattern.

Clint, that is exactly why I like hunting pre-rut ... way more predictable ...

Well walking back to the Jeep I jumped an 8pt and doe on the edge of the field about 75 yds from where I parked. Next dilemma where to hunt tonight.

That and late season, all about the food sources.

For me it is pretty much rut or bust. Other than oaks and browse the land I hunt holds no real food sources. So for me up until the rut my only chance is between food and bedding, 95% of my sightings pre and post rut are does and fawns.

I know bucks use the property for both bedding and traveling but I don't have the time needed to properly scout and hone in on them.

Something has to give on my part. Deal with chance where sitting every hour possible after Halloween incresases my chances, or do proper scouting even if it is only checking and moving cams every 3-5 weeks.

I know where I need to go, uncle pointed it out to me several years ago but warned me once leaves start dropping you have to get in early as leaves get deep and entry is loud. Just not sure I can bring myself to climb into stand 2 hours before shooting time and a 45 minute plus walk in.

I'd have to get up at 1:30 in the morning for a morning hunt, my name ain't Joe

Spent the last couple hours getting my lease ready for gun season. Which means pulling stuff that isn’t bolted down out. Normally I’ve filled my buck tag at this point so the choir is another chance to scout around and enjoy being outside.
Stings a little more this year with that buck tag in my pocket.
We still have a lot of season left in OH but I know my chances are dwindling. The busy season for work is upon me and vacation is all used up.
There is a small corner of the property I haven’t disturbed today. If I can get this stuff unloaded and get back out here I might have time for one more sit.
    Good luck guys!

Had a good hunt with my buddy yester day. Was going to post but no service. We doubled up on does to top the freezers off. I crunched mine and she ran 20. He thought he hit shoulder and heard her crash. Long story short his was a 5 hour track job. We found her. Covered in a pile of leaves. Only her hind legs were sticking out. Couldn’t see the rest of her. The pics I’m trying to upload say too large. Any guesses on what happened to his deer?

She crashed in to the tree so hard she knocked all the leaves out of it on top of her........or
a cat covered her up for later.

My guess would be single lung and she fell due to weakness and trying to get up scooped leaves around her covering the front half of her body.

If thqt is what you were eluding to(you know what happened but can we guess correctly).

Foodplot hit it. The shot was very low. In the leg. When we uncovered her she was tore into on shoulder. We flipped her over to see where he shot her and it was way low but broke her leg. Then he said “oh yea I forgot! I saw a bobcat cross the 4 wheeler path 30 min or so after I shot her”. Best guess is the bobcat finished what my buddy couldn’t haha. Here in my part of Illinois we are just starting to see more bobcats so this was a first for us. I knew coyotes didn’t cover a whole carcass like that

I would have guessed a bear covered the doe. They will do that as well. Didn't know a bobcat would do that.
