Dropped off at the taxidermist, got the meat deboned, time to head home. Scored 128.5. I'll get the points up tonight when I relax and nap. It's been a long 2 days. Still super pumped about it
Update on my hunts. My last hunt didn't go as planned I saw 3 doe and the land onwer next to my family land connected on the buck I was getting good daylight pictures off. I'm very happy for him, he is a great guy. I helped in the recovery. I did pull some cards and he was the largest racked buck around, but not the biggest body. Here are some pictures from the latest card pull. It looks like I'll be hunting Thursday or Friday and all weekend.
Look at the neck on that brute!!! Just realized that I am pointed out, good luck to you guys, I'll still be around looking to see how everyone does.
Sat this morning for 6 hours this, didn't see any deer. I saw Turkeys that's it. It was very cold(low 20's with wind chill) and winds were 20-25 MPH. I'll be out tomorrow afternoon on some public ground. Week and a half before gun season hoping to get a crack at something.
Well guys sorry I haven't posted much. It's been a slow year with not many deer. I've put in a good amount of time with not many sightings. I sat a stand all day and had 3 separate bobcat sightings, one had 3 of them stalking a 1.5 buck. Needless 2 say I won't b giving up and things are really starting to heat up around me. Good luck guys
An update on the Saga of my Season...I have been hunting pretty hard since Halloween or as least as much as the wife and kids can stand. I have had a lot of young bucks right underneath me or within shooting distance several times, but nothing I would consider a shooter. I have seen 3 bucks I would shoot, one was close but was too dark to shoot him, the other two were chasing does and never came within range. My wife is about burnt out and I'm in the doghouse after an all day hunt on the 8th. Not sure what will happen here the next 2 weeks. I was really hoping to have a big one on the ground. Gun season opens Thursday. I might only get a few hunts in and save up so more time for late season. Congrats to those of you who were successful and good luck to those who are still at it.
I’m right there with ya. I don’t have kids so I’m probably less in the doghouse as you, but my wife has gotta be getting tired by now. I’m lucky she’s been very patient with me. Like you, I’ve had several young bucks walk within feet of my stand, and like you, have only seen a couple shooters with no shot opportunity. I’ve logged about 45-50 hours of hunting just in the past week and the deer seem to be vanishing, I’m either overhunting or they’re in lockdown. I have to take a breather for a little bit to let my body and mind recouperate. Next weekend I’m making a trip to upstate NY for a rifle hunt. I’ll be back at it with the bow as soon as I get back, but probably mostly afternoon sits. Good luck to you guys, keep at it! I’ll update you guys as the month of November continues.
I’m not in the doghouse, but my strictly archery hunting is done at the private land until after the shotgun seasons. The bucks have locked down in the large tract of timber bordering my property and haven’t seen a shooter in two weeks. The one I saw ran 15 yards behind me on a doe and there was no way to get on him. I still might get on the public land for a couple hunts for late rut and late season could be real good for me if the weather cooperates. I have over two acres of standing beans. Arrived at camp last night I usually see several deer, nada, this ain’t good . It’s gun season in Ky starting today for ten days, I may partake only for he meat portion. Then rising up my bow again. Not sure where all the deer are very strange. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
I was at full draw on a doe lastnight, but she kept looking back so I held back and let down. Then the buck showed up a 3 pointer.... He gave chase to her and then stopped and gave me a great looking look at him at about 22 yards. To bad he was the wrong deer. I"m going out Tuesday, then it's wisconsin gun season for 9 days followed by muzzleloader. I'll still hunt late season, but it does get harder for me. I'll keep pushing. I'm personally ready to have a rifle in my hand. I've seen more big deer this year the most, just all out of bow range.
Well, hate to post another buck after reading how some of you guy's season is going, but I got a dandy of a Tennessee deer this morning. Haven't measured it, but still super pumped about it. I still can't believe the season I've had, I haven't taken a buck in 2 years letting little ones walk. Good luck fellas, keep at it.
