Messing around with google earth, I found out how to go back in time.
Here’s a few aerials of the area I’m going to be checking out. Thick and green with pines and mountain laurel!

Went down to Missouri last week wednesday. Had done lots of scouting via onx and google earth but never had boots on the ground. me and my cousin who I was hunting with got into Missouri late Wednesday night. On Thursday morning we go up and we went to the piece of public we had picked out. Hiked in about a mile and found amazing deer sign in a swamp. We ended up seeing a 130 inch buck chasing a doe and we backed out and decided we would hunt there that night. That night I packed in my lone wolf and set up in a pinch point between 2 bedding areas in the swamp. I hadnt seen anything so I decided to rattle. Ended up rattling in 2 120 inch bucks but they stayed just out of range. In total I saw 5 bucks and 10 doe and fawn. Had deer around me until well after dark. Decided to leave stand up in order to slip out as quiet as possible. The next morning my cousin hunted about 300 yards to my north. Neither of us had seen any deer until about 9:00 am. At 9 I had a fork horn and spike walk by. Then I got a text from him reading "MO buck down". We waited about an hour and got down and met at my stand. He said it was a decent 10 point and that he saw it fall. 10 yard shot about 3 inches behind the front shoulder and passed thru the opposite shoulder. The weird thing was that there was no blood at all. Not even in the area it crashed. the buck only went 50 yards before piling up. This was his biggest buck ever and one he is super proud of.

Anyones thoughts on a potential set on this marker? Those two lines are routes I suspected some of the deer I saw on the way in went.but on each side of this marker seems to be a good divet into the top of the ridge.[IMG]

So i took the day off today to hunt after a weekend at the in laws. I ended up going to a local property first but had no luck and left real early. Went out to the public spot with intentions of going in to a ravine off a point. I saw good sign right where i parked and was hoping it would get better as i went deeper. It started to dry up and i only found one track and some droppings in the ravine. Im trying to stay mobile and hunt smart so i hiked back to where i started, and set up over some trails on oaks with a lot of little signs. The buck came in with a perfect wind, he was never gonna get my wind. He started off moving slowly i drew on him at 30 but he started coming by way so i waited for him to get closer. He ended up moving real fast so i had to stop him at 20, and I was at a funky angle turned to my bad side, first shot hit high and dropped him but i got to follow it up with a good heart shot. Theres a chance a bigger buck would have come through but i wasn't holding out on my first public land deer. Now it's time to hold out for a big one. 20181029_165155.jpeg 20181029_164924.jpeg

Ebell...look at the map I attached. Sneaky little thickets like this are hard to find without a decently clear map (Google maps). Wedged right between hardwoods and the pines. Guarantee if it is thick in there, deer will bed in there, and bucks will come looking. Second pic is what it looks like in a close up...distinct.

So pull up Google maps and run the aerial. If you find a spot, left click and it will give you the gps coordinates.

My MI public land hunts have not gone well. The area I hunt has been marked for logging since last fall. Wouldn't you know it, they have been logging a few weeks now.

The main road into the property and then the view from my spur road. It appears that they will take 95% of the trees out of the area-including the cedars. Going to look a lot different next year.

Tagged out on bucks in Illinois, and not ready to be done hunting the rut, I’m taking to the road and planning on hitting some public land elsewhere.

I’ll hopefully get off work Wednesday morning and have the energy to get the truck loaded up and be on the road by 7 or 8. Hunt through Friday night, and then back home with a 2nd trip likely planned for the end of the month.

Should be fun and educating at the least as l have never stepped foot into the 2 or 3 public lands I am looking at.

What you did on public land was a great decision. On Uncle Sam's land beggars can't be choosers. Congrats

Two days ago went out to a very big wma in Minnesota. This area is mostly swamp and since the temps were cold you could pretty much walk on water now. Get all my stuff loaded and ready pull into parking area and with the fresh snow I saw that there hadn’t been anyone there for at least two days. Walk in ten feet and I find three large bucks dead, not dressed out with their antlers cut off. Which they used an axe. All shot with rifle. Ok, call t.i.p. Great sat about 200 yards away saw nothing.

Today it hit 44 degrees and headed out to the same wma but about 5 miles north. Walk out thru the wood to this beautiful open area where I saw deer the night before come out early. I see a truck in the middle of the wma field. Guy was taking stuff out of the back of the truck until he saw me. Needless to say I was a little pissed. Of coarse he had “no idea” you couldn’t drive on MN wma. Called t.i.p. Found out the warden assigned to this area moved on and they haven’t assigned and won’t assign a new one till mid December.

So yea get up a stand and 30 min later bird hunter comes thru my woods, I can see him. Shoots about 7 times at nothing! Dog is happy, he is happy just shooting, doesn’t see me. Leaves with no birds.

It’s gonna take one dumb ass deer to walk in front of me tonight.
