Did you say it was a high hit with no pass thru? Could take a while for the blood to starting leaking. Give him time. Mark where you last saw him and give him 4 or 5 hours. Don’t push him. Once he lays down he’ll die there if not pushed.

Yes, fixing to go search the field edge again for any sign of fresh tracks going in the direction he was headed, blood, or my arrow

You might just be off the trail a bit. You're making a good move by going back to the truck, regroup, and Giving the buck Time to Die. If it was a high shot, it'll take a while to pump blood out-even longer if the arrow is plugging the hole. The doe I double lunged in Oct was a higher shot and she didn't drop much blood, but she only lived seconds. GO SLOW.

dude, definitely back out- give it a lot of time. You're not going to want to hear this but-

This week the guys on TPH were hunting with one of the non-flatbrimmers from HUSH and he hit a super nice buck a little low and little back- maybe 10" of penetration. Quartering slightly away. Looked to be appx 6-8" behind heart. Good blood at first, they ended up backing out in CRP in the dark. Next day they got a blood tracking dog. Long story short based on multiple slo-mo reviews, watery blood, and the fact the buck made it well over a mile on the track, they think they got stomach and possibly a little liver. They lost the buck. The dog just kept bumping it out of bed nearly 24 hours later. They backed out again and went back at it the next day. No buck.

Given your hit description; it sounds similar but potentially worse with him slightly quartering to rather than away; give it all the time you can. That's a small broadhead and that's where fat gathers most on a deer; so it's very possible fat will plug those hole(s.)

of course I write all that and he may be dead 10 yards into the treeline.
But I take a lot of grief from my buddies on being a shoulder wrecker with both bow and gun, but I always, always aim at (or try to make the exit at)that point right above the offside elbow. Your margin of error is much much greater. I know we all try to make the best shot, but if I'm back at all I just feel sick until the deer is recovered. Been part of way too many bad endings on shots that are back; both as shooter and as back up.
