20181105_063523.jpg I'm relegated to a blind again this morning due to the rain. Just had a 4 point about stick his head through the window. Maybe he wants out of the rain as well.

Like others stated, you are a great man Shane! You have a good smart head on your shoulders. I pick on you in fun, like I would if we were hanging out in person.

Hopefully within a year or two I’ll be able to make it out to the Midwest again, we should plan a hunt together!

This forum, I think for most of us, we find that almost everyone here meets our level of commitment to the hunt, which we rarely find outside of here. Heck I’d love to hunt share camp with pretty much everyone on here.

We should all plan a early October public land hunt/camp out next year somewhere!

Repetition will get you more familiar. Over the years of hunting the same area I've become able to get to my stand sites in complete darkness without a light, even with a new moon. The key is to have certain markers that you can distinguish in the dark, like a weird tree that might be taller than the others, a particular bush that sticks out, a fallen tree, a big rock, ect. These types of markers keep me from getting turned around in the dark.

Well back in the saddle again! Hunt this morning then work for 4 days. I would have to go back to work when the best cold front so far comes through.

Good tips, unfortunately I only spend one week a year out here, and I might sit in each stand a couple of times. The stand I am in this morning is in a different spot than the last few years. Time to tickle the antlers together

Shane, I started out hunting exactly like you did. I didn't have family members or friends to hunt with (still don't) or give me advice/direction. Nobody had the interest! I'm strictly self taught, by reading books and magazines back in the 70's. I started shooting a recurve bow into used bakery boxes as my target. Over time I bought my first compound bow, a Bear Polar LTD. I thought I was all that! Eventually I got good at reading deer sign, learning their habits, and learning the woods that I hunt. Today folks have the advantage of the internet to learn, and watch videos, which makes the curve much easier to negotiate.

You have enjoyed early success that many will never see (including me), so you're fortunate. Keep the same level head that you exhibit here on the forums and I believe you'll do beautifully in life. Just remember to take your time when you do things, there's no rush. Your a good young man, and I look forward to watching your continued success as a hunter. Be safe out there!
