Every year I see hundreds and hundreds of trophy photos - some really good, some not so good. I typically see the same mistakes over and over again - not using the flash, camera person way too far away or up too high, blood all over the place, tongue hanging out, etc. So last week when we were taking some photos of Troy's deer we put together a quick video with a few basic tips than everyone can use to help get better trophy photos this fall. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=314203549392921
Any photo that i take that others think looks good is clearly an accident! LOL Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Some additional tips: ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure you stretch your arms out as far as you can with the deers rack. Product placement. Never take trophy photos without placing your sponsors products in front of your kill. Have to remember without those sponsors products none of that kill would have been possible. Photoshop is great for enhancing colors and adding a few inches to every deer. Also great for making an ugly mug tolerable. all jokes aside those are some good tips. True story... The only deer I have on the wall and the only deer I really have pictures of violate basically every "trophy photo" standard the industry has created. I was young and dumb, and I have all of these things going on in the 2 pictures I have with the deer: First series of pictures in the field I'm sitting on the deers back. The tongue is hanging out (with blood dripping from it). The bullet hole is dripping with blood. Thank god the flash was on. Second series of pictures at home I'm in the bed of the truck. No more blood. No more tongue.
Ha! This was me last year. I was so jacked up afterwards my mind was gone, lol. Didn’t help I was exhausted after a stressful recovery job. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Heres the last trophy pic i took for the other half....the first one turned out alright i think. The one in the back of the truck was just kind of cool i thought.... Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
The hunting industry making a big deal about a picture of your deer in the back of a truck as a “bad” thing is a joke in my opinion. I think that is a great picture honestly. Can’t imagine what they think of a buck hanging from our deer camps buck pole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's a cool pic. Most tailgate trophy pics are not very attractive. That pic is way different. Sent from my LM-V350 using Tapatalk
I agree. Most of them you see have a bag of trash, an old tire, and 12-15 crushed beer cans. This one was cool. After all that is a part of the hunt as well. That’s where the deer ends up and when you hear that tailgate slam shut with your trophy in the back it’s a sweet sound! Now I admit I’m bad about tucking the tongue and cleaning all the blood but I’m not in the hunting industry and usually take a few quick pics to show some buddies. I normally don’t feel like doing Glamour Shots in the field. On the other hand, I’ll also admit that the photos done the way described above are a lot more presentable especially if you want to show your grams at thanksgiving dinner.
Tongue hanging out. Drives me nuts. It takes all of 2 seconds to poke the tongue back in and it makes a world of difference. Nothing more disrespectful to the animal imo than making it look like a cartoon character with the tongue hanging around. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I just wish it hadn’t been 90 degrees when I got my big guy this year. Would have had much better photos but had to get him to processor ASAP. I know the photo sucks as per the tips in this post but wanted to show him off some. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Thats a dandy, congrats!...the only person that really NEEDS to be happy with the pics is the person holding the deer. Just my opinion... Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
