Well with the platform stand came sticks to buy I bought the ones that are pretty much a ladder. With my stand came a lifelike with the knot that slides up and down. No excuse to not buy a harness now it is so easy, plus I am not afraid but concerned at heights. I look at the straps holding the bracket on and think this damn thing could fall at any time.

I bought a hang and hunt set up last year after
My climber was stolen. I am comfortable on the stand,
Climbing the sticks makes me nervous.

That is why I always change out all straps for good quality ratchet straps. I had a brand new stand and one strap broke on me about three years ago while I was hanging a new lock-on.

I will do at least 2 straps at each point, heck my old ladder stand is tied to the tree in 6 places.

Those lifelines are great! for 40 bucks there is no good reason any fixed stand should not have one.

climbing sticks don't make me nervous. Hanging them and then the stand from them does.

I will be using an extension ladder to set the stand and steps.

I've tried several of the top brands. My favorite is the Summit Pro Harness, hands down

I prefer the Lite versions instead of the vest type versions because getting in on with winter clothes is so much easier. Currently I have a HSS Lite and it has worked well for me but I have not had to test it(which is a good thing and I never want to have to use one in real life conditions).

I have 2 HSS harnesses that I have used for years...one is a light version for early season and the other is what I believer they call the Treestalker now. I just prefer the vest type vice trying to untangle a bunch of straps, especially when it is dark out and I want to get moving to my stand.

Kudos to you for taking the step towards ensuring you're safe, I look back at some of the stands that I would climb into and have to think that I was an idiot...one slip and I was either crippled for life or dead. It really is such a simple thing to do yet every year we hear about the dire consequences of those who choose not to practice safety.

Up till this season I only used ladder stands the thought of climbing sticks and a platform strapped to a tree made me commit to wearing a harness.

I have the HSS Bowhunter harness and love it! Easy to get on easy to adjust and light weight and not bulky! Sometimes I forget I have it on like when I am using my climber and forget I am still attached to the tree and go to jump down out of the stand! Talk about a sudden stop!

HSS has the most comfortable and easiest to wear harnesses I’ve tried.

Well I went to cabbalas and they were kinda picked over I ended up getting a muddy that I plan on wearing under my outer layer.

What do you guys do with the "lifeline" when you're in the stand? Leave it dangling, coil it up? Seem like any movement would be amplified if it were dangling. I've looked for several years now about getting one but now that the oldest kid may start hunting, I've been thinking more about it.

As for a harness, I made the mistake of buying the HSS hybrid. It's not bad but looking back, I would have much rather had a minimal one that I would put under my outer layer. The only thing I ever use the pockets for are to keep the stress relief rope, and usually the tree rope for when I get in the tree. And I'm too cheap to spend another $75 when I have a perfectly good one plus 3 other "strap" ones.
