    Story time.
Back in velvet season I got a couple series of pictures of this buck and he already had his main beam busted off his right side. With a very interesting other side and a mature body, I automatically figured him as a shooter anyways. Yesterday I decided to hunt right behind my house (25 yards off my back yard) in a dry flooding area between two bedding areas. This is the first time I have hunted this little spot since 2009 opening day of archery, and that turned into me killing a 13 point two year old, I was young and dumb. With a great wind blowing towards my house I got up in my climber at 5:30. Around six I let out some blind grunts and a few minutes later here comes a young 10 point that was definitely safe from me. He milled downwind from me and hung out for 15-20 minutes at 30 yards. I let out a few more grunts and a snort wheeze around 6 p.m. Not two minutes later I hear a deer beating the piss out of a tree and scraping the ground. At 60 yards he was walking sideways and looking like a bull in a china shop. He started to circle to my downwind side so I grunted a couple more times in front of me and that turned him to head directly in front. 23 yards and it was over. After recovering him, I found he broke off the cool piece to his G3 but is the biggest bodied deer I have shot to date. He ran 60 yards out of sight and was dead. The pressure is off, which is nice because duck season opens saturday and I won't feel so guilty not being in a tree every night. I will get him scored tonight and posted for you guys to check over. Thanks for all the support! Pictures to follow.

Just sat at my desk for lunch and watched Troy's video. What a ride he had that day between his daughter's B-day, softball, and that monster. That was fun to watch. Best part I liked was that you had your Dad there to enjoy the moment with you in the recovery. You were truly blessed that day! Congrats to all you guys, these bucks are impressive.

My rutcation is coming up and I am a little fearful that I took it a week late? its the 9-15th.

The property owners don't want any guns so it's hard to kill em. Anytime I hunt that property in the am I end with calling for coyotes. I actually missed one the weekend before I **** my buck. Hit him high, cut his back but he ducked shot and I didn't get vitals. Hard to kill them at any meaningful number when we can't rifle or shotgun .

Even calling coyotes and using rifles isn't the best way to make a substantial dent. I think trapping is the way to go if predators are an issue!

Trapping is a great idea and I haven’t even thought of it. I’m on the fence as to how I want to get rid of the coyotes on my property. The situation I’m in is he landowners don’t want anyone knowing I hunt there since I’m the only person they’ve ever given permission. I have friends that trap but don’t want to get caught having someone else on the land then screw myself.

The landowners I hunt on have chickens and shoot the coyotes when they get the chance so I have the green light. I should have shot one last weekend but I held off hoping a deer would come in but I was sadly mistaken.
