Nothing moving here yet. I had really high hopes for this spot, tons of sign buck and doe. 2 sits in a row with zero activity (so far.) Hmmmm.

Giving it another 45 then I'm out. Gotta get dad's deer to the processor and pack up the camper.

I also keep forgetting it's before the time change and I don't normally hunt this much in October... Deer activity I'm used to seeing around 9-10a in November is really 10-11a by October time zone frame standards...

Ok. Sorry. Been a bit tied up at work.

I shot a doe last night about 5:30. Initial thoughts were that I was a bit low with a heart shot. First blood kind of supported that.

Now, here is where the story really gets good. Seconds after I shoot, I get a text from my wife. Get up to the house soon as you can, we have a situation! So I climb down and check my arrow and find the start of the blood trail a foot from the impact sight. (Pic posted.)

I get out to the edge of my field which is slightly less than a 40 from the house. I can here a commotion all the way back there! When I get to the house there is a **** storm in action. And I really have to leave that story there-to protect the guilty. Suffice to say we had to call some of Virginia Shadow's brethren.

Fast forward to 10 ish and we are out to take up the trail. After about 50 yards, I knew I did not get the heart. I had more of a spray pattern from lung hits. Get to 100 yards and find a bed. Lots of blood-no deer. We continue on another 70 yards and find another bed. At this point, we are close to the property line and I can my neighbor to get permission to track.

This is also the thickest nastiest stuff I have on my property. I'm sure that she will be in this crap. I am on my hands and knees crawling through and come out the other side to another bed. And another less than 10 yards away. And then another 10 yards from that. But still no deer. Trail is leading to another tangle and I start to go under that as well but realize that there is no blood. I back out and look for where I missed the turn. I find the trail again and the deer is laying in a low spot about 15 yards from the tangle. She is bloated and starting to get stiff.

T doe.jpg he pic is the exit side.

Had a doe w/fawn sneak through earlier, and twin fawns hanging around.
Surprised, no young bucks cruising at all?
I’m gonna try to stay a while, kill a midday buck. I’m thinking between 11-12, when the moon is underfoot.

Sorry but that would be counting my chickens before they hatch.

It was bad enough that I expected a short recovery.
