I did get another stand brushed in and ready, started shooting my bow again, went to Dr. and got a good report. I may go after work today and sit in a stand until dark. I have not been using cameras much the last couple of years and I must say that it has been enjoyable. Kinda throwback hunting, if you see something that you would be proud to harvest, has a good story to you or whatever then you try to get the shot. It kind of takes the pressure off of purely chasing 1 or 2 "trophy" animals and seems to give me back the joy and wonder of hunting. Sometimes we get caught up in all the hype of the biggest buck, the TV shows, Youtube, etc that only celebrate harvesting 180 inch deer. I admire the dedication it takes to hunt specific animals, have done it and sit on a stand all year long with only seeing my target deer one time and not getting a shot at him and then hunting the next year and never seeing him. Don't get me wrong, it was rewarding in a lot of ways but I put a lot of pressure on myself and toward the end it was more like work than something enjoyable. So I made a choice to go back to a more simple hunting strategy which has worked for me the last couple of years. To each their own, just enjoy it is my advice.

Like a few of you have already said, we opened Saturday, but it was a no-go for me. I drove out to my area (about an hour and a half each way) and checked a few cams around midday... but I made a decision not to hunt. I just could't justify the possibility of blowing out a spot with that crappy north wind. Also, I made it home just in time for the Ohio State - Penn State kickoff.... which of course played absolutely no part in my decision to skip the hunt! :moose:

And as a bonus THE Ohio State pulled it out. Early In being from Southeastern PA may disagree about that being a good thing.

So I just downloaded the Drury Bro's "Deercast" app on my phone. Anyone have any experience with it?
According to their theories/philosophies, this coming Friday morning has a "Great" rating for deer movement for my area. It'll be crisp, with early morning temps in the 50's, combined with a high barometric pressure (30.12) and an easterly wind.... And it just so happens I have a decent doe setup for such conditions. I'm gonna try my best to get freed up so I can put their app-theory to the test.

I totally agree! I hate getting to my stand sites and being soaked with sweat, which seems to entice the skeeters. Bring on the rut!!! :nana:

I'll actually be at my lease for saturday and Sunday. As opposed to last weekend and only hunting once, I will be out there and get roughly 3 hunts in. The wind is absolutely awful for a lot of spots (ESE), and not to mention temps in the low 70s and high 80s, but I have a spot I've been scouting all year on a oak flat that is covered up in doe activity. I will try to climb there at least once this weekend as it looks to be the only spot I have for a decent wind.

Yep, the wind direction has been awful for me as well. I've been getting a lot of ENE, which sucks for all of my sets. Tomorrow I will have a good wind, so I'll give it a go! :tu:

Seems to be a theme across the board! Lol... Despite every forecast I looked at, I woke up this morning at 4:30am to ANOTHER friggin' NE wind. Needless to say, I stayed home. Ugh... It's supposed to switch to a SW wind tomorrow, as it warms back up to near 90 (of course!) for the next 6-7 days. That kinda heat = misery, but I do have one good doe spot with a pre-hung stand that is perfect for that wind. I'm working a 12 hour OT day tomorrow, but there's a decent chance I end up in that stand Sunday afternoon, as my hunting opportunities are about to become really constricted until the end of the month. Fingers crossed...
