Good luck guys! I'll be a bit north of you, just south of Hayden, filming Todd. If he tags out early, maybe I can swing down on my way home.

Awesome stuff guys! For as much as I'm on here, I've never come into the big game thread. I always thought it was out of reach. This seems doable in the future! Good luck!

The 2018 cow tag is $446, either sex is $661 for non res.

Assuming you have some basic gear, manageable (IMHO) with some planning and budgeting.

Will's camp offer is a great way to keep the cost down and get hooked.

I have a bit in archery gear and some camping/hiking gear which I've acquired, but most of that is sunk costs for me now. Add food and fuel...feasible for about $1000. Which, budgeted out for a year is ~$85/mo...YMMV

The problem really is after you've caught the fever...

The first step is to admit you have a problem, then you stop thinking of it as a problem and just roll with it!

The mountains in the fall is a majestic place. Make time to do these things. As pointed out above. $85/month is feasible for most with planning.

Leaving next Wednesday. Any elk truly is a trophy. Didn't understand that until going a few times. The meat is fantastic too.

Keep in mind the wind and limit the possibilities of where that bull will end up!!

Just saw this post. Have plenty of time to prepare for 2020. That was when I was plannin on making my first trek from GA anyway. Good luck to all who attended! This seems like an awesome opportunity.

This camp is well worth the look, we've had people from all over the world turn up to Will's camp and then come back for more. I can say 2020 is gonna be a good year, with veterans of the last 10yrs Elk Camp coming to meet up, there are Elk in the area, but they are shy and you have to work to find them..... but they are there trust me. There is also a huge amount of Mule Deer, if the numbers don't turn up, there is a good chance this Bi-Yearly Camp will come to an end and I for one would be gutted to see this happen.

Well, Will did drop a nice mule deer while Dan and I were there (a week early). Dan and I had opportunity but no shots at a couple of cows - and a lot of sign. Some other hunters fouled up our hunt the first few days. We ran into another hunter who was chasing a 7x7 in an especially difficult area.

Week 2, a few veterans of this camp set out for a different area up in NW CO. Justin shot a big bodied 5x4. And Matt, Justin and I had one really especially good day of calling and chasing, but the elk escaped a couple times to adjacent private land.

At the end of the week Matt and I returned to unit 45 where Matt called in a bull and cow in the evening of our last day hunting there.

Troy, Sexy Rexy and the Texas boys were holding down the fort when I left 2 days ago (NC to CO is a helluva drive!)

The elk are still there. You do need to work for it.

You have 2 years to get into shape and budget for the 2020 trip. Don't wait to start on either![IMG]

Wl704 Thank you for the Pando elk hunting report. Congratulations to Huck and Justin and their success on game taken. Nice buck Huckelberry !
Wl704 sounds like you and the other fellows gave it all you could, some close calls, but the Hunting Gods did not smile on you all. That was disappointing I am sure. What Unit did you hunt up North ? Happy to hear Justin scored up North on the 4x5.
I heard from other friends Colo was quite warm this bow season. I am sorry to hear the last day in Unit 45 for you was eventful... but no success.
I wish you all a safe journey home, and success later in the fall with your own state's hunting season. *** As always... Huck you are a great fellow hunter to host and put on this elk camp.

    HH Richard

If this elk camp happens in 2020, is area 45 going to a draw area, going to affect anything? I would love to go to a camp like this
    if possible.
Thanks for any and all input.

I don’t believe it’s going to be a draw unit, just changing to bull only. Will is talking like either doing a deer camp in 45 or looking for a new elk area.

So was there a 2020 trip? I keep forgetting about these and have been wanting to get down there for about 5yrs now.
