He's fully mature if that matters. Many factors come into play if decideing to let him go. I'd kill him now if possible
This one scored 175 and some change to give you a reference for score. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I know each hunter has their own set of standards they want to commit to when harvesting deer and I don't want you to change yours but.................................................................DAMN! My personal opinion is if that buck walked by my stand, he'd have an arrow in him. Your choice to make if he shows up. Good luck!
I think Mr. Nimavavavich is one of them Russian click bait bots I been reading about. His next thread will be titled "One weird trick to shoot giant bucks"
I think the deer is mature enough and with those weak G1’s he’s probably not going to get to any crazy high score by living another year. If you have bigger deer then sure target them first but don’t pass this deer under the guise of letting him grow. He’s grown. I’d guess him in the low 160’s. That’s a hell of a deer for someone who has never killed one over 130”. That’s a hell of a deer for someone who has already killed one over 160”. In the end it’s up to you. If you can shoot that deer and be excited and happy for it then you shouldn’t hesitate. If you are going to shoot him and then be like Meh... then don’t do it. I guess it’s ok to set a goal (even at 175”) but how did you arrive at that. I’m sure there’s some guys on here with similar standards but they probably also built themselves up to that place by shooting a lot of really nice deer over years of hunting. You seem to have just arbitrarily placed yourself there. Again though it’s your choice. If you have a good enough hunting place to set those kinds of standards then go for it. Good luck.
I'm hoping for a 175" deer this year too. But, I'd shoot anything over 130. And I would for sure shoot that deer.
Are you serious?? Nothing a sure thing until he in the freezer. I wouldn't hesitate!! I've pasted up smaller and regretted it at the end of the season. Sent from my SM-G930U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Ah, well goals are goals. Personally if I had set my mind on a 175" deer, I'd wait if there are bigger deer in the area. That buck isn't going to gain much with age, he's mature enough as it is. But let's be real, I wouldn't confine myself to that 175" goal and I'd put that guy down at first opportunity. However that's a personal determination and I've not shot a deer over that 175" either. I'm still looking for a Booner as a hunting goal but I probably wouldn't let a deer like that walk.
So your one of those guys that shoots scrawny little runts huh? Just kidding! That is an awesome buck and I personally would take him in a heartbeat.
Double edged sword in a sense. Without year to year pictures to know exact age he could have been bigger last year, say 5 1/2 last year 6 1/2 this year and held or lost a bit. Could be smaller next year, just one of them chances you have to decide on. One thing is for certain, he's passed his genetics throughout the herd.
Thanks for all the comments guys..! After reading some reaponses, i hope i never came off as a smart ass or condinsending, im really not like that at all.. - any how, as mentioned i may not even get the chance right?! So who i to sit here and decide, ultimatly its the deer thet chooses to walk in front of me, id be lucky to get a chance Anyhow- im lookint foward to seeing him hard horned, his sllit beam makes me believe i had him on cam last year,
Sorry if I hurt your feelings didn't mean to. It's hard to come by a buck of that standard here where I hunt in Pa. I hunt all public or stat forest land. Will not shoot the first one that comes in just because it's legal. Do have my own standard of size I'm looking for also. Good luck and if that's the only you have to worry about this season lucky you.
