Lots of big deer up here in North Dakota and with an archery season that opens in August, there is a good chance of a velvet encounter!
I’ll be hunting the Bismarck area. Have a couple stands up on public land that I’ve hinted before. Also got permission for some private land that is in a great area but I haven’t scouted yet. Hoping to get in there tomorrow and maybe even get a blind up.
Best of luck to you out there!! I’m up in the northeast about 65 miles northwest of grand forks on private land.
Some good looking deer there. I grew up hunting in MT, above Hwy 2. Lots of deer up north. Good luck.
I’m pretty excited too. I got a stand in an awesome spot. Could have shot dozens of deer last year if I’d had my stand there. Now I’ve got to see if there is a decent buck there. I might have to go to the NDSU Bison opener on the 1st though. First world problems....
South Dakota has a Sept 1st opener so I'll be chasing fuzzy deer this Labor Day. Hoping it can work out I have spent a couple weeks in ND and KY over the years trying for one but have yet to get that fuzzy rack.
Hunting north Dakota but not going out till October 27th to November 3rd. 'My glory is ever new with me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.'
This is my fourth season and I’ve yet to get one in velvet. I get close every year but being North Dakota only allows one tag all season I do wait for the bigger ones to show up. Which means if the wind is wrong I don’t go in. And that can make the velvet rush go by pretty quick.
This is my 2nd season. Last year we did 2nd week of September Saw some great bucks but stayed out bow range. 'My glory is ever new with me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.'
He’s lying there are no big deer, just fork horns and does and with the cold the deer don’t have velvet. But yes I have a date with a tree stand this Friday night, weather permitting. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
