i hunt private property connected to public land, I’d like to put a ladder stand in an area where the private meets public, having the stand only a little ways on the private side. This area is very hard to reach only going through the public land, but I do know people sometimes venture to this area as I had a ground blind stole not to far away during turkey season a few years ago. Is there any way to prevent somebody else from climbing into the stand and hunting? I’m sure a hang on would be the answer and just take the bottom sticks, but I’m thinking about putting a 2 person stand here for taking my kids or my wife. My only thought would be to put a trail cam up a tree a little ways and in obvious sight. The property is posted very clearly, but I wouldn’t doubt if somebody got back there and didn’t see anybody around that they’d start using it.

Cable lock some plywood or expanded metal to the first 8' of ladder rungs?

I went the local machine shop and had a sheet of steel mesh cut that covered the ladder and cable locked it in place. It worked very well for me.

    Was that your blind? :moose:

Seriously though, I'm not sure. Looking forward to other replies so I can implement this as well.

I take the bolts out of the foot platform so it hangs down and/or is useless. I just carry the bolts in my pack and use a butterfly nut to put them back in before I hunt. It only takes a minute and as far as I can tell no one uses my ladder stands.

Put a sign above the stand saying “Stand is booby trapped - Go for it”. You could even include some obvious and suspicious looking wires and such. That should do the trick.

Of course don’t actually booby trap the stand.
