I believe i like that tactic myself... Thanks for your input, much appreciated Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
No problem. It usually ends up being a lot of extra "wasted" work because the peas hardly make it out of the ground before they get eaten but I guess that's alright too.
Let me ask ya... Do the deer eat only the pea/pod... Or will they eat stems and leaves as well... Thanks Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
For me they usually eat the entire stem and leaves before it's able to produce any pods. Some day i'm going to drill them in so I can a better stand and that may help. I'm probably getting 60-70% germination broadcasting.
I am thinking about planting them in strips this year, maybe get a thicker stand before they ravage them..
Was just looking at the long range forecast this morning. I am going to shoot for August 18th, looks like the temps and moisture may be a repeat of last year here in Oklahoma. Cereal rye, barley, peas, kale and sugar beets is what I have so far but I will probably mix in clovers as well.
Last one i done it was between 6.5 and 7.0...everything was goid... I sentca sample to WI.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
This is what I do now ^^^. If planting bigger seed like beans or corn I break up the ground, broadcast the seed, disk it under, pack it and then broadcast smaller seed like turnips, brassica and clover on top, run over it again to help ensure good seed to soil contact.
Thats exactly what a fellow needs to do.. Ive just never thought about that way.... Thanks Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Your golden brother. Drainage is another factor but your pH is good. I would recommend a mix of annuals like arrow leaf and crimson and then a perennial like Ladino or Durano. The arrow leaf and Crimson will reseed themselves but the actual plant only lives one season where as the white clover will survive a few seasons. A little sprinkling of chicory wouldn't hurt. Good luck!!
Ive tried clover and chicory here in Va... These Deer wont touch Chicory... Ive had it out 3 yrs... They dont touch it!! So im going to plant some beans etc... I want them in my small kill plots during October in bow season Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Then November the ruts on.... So thats good.... Then late season.. You take what you can.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Purdy much given up on mixes. If I have an acre, I'll plant in strips each separate seed variety. Very seldom seen mixes produce as good as strips planted at right depth and time
Just finished 2 plots. Forgot to take a picture of the big one but here's as clover/ winter rye plot. Raining as I type this. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
