for me archery is about getting close to the game i'm hunting. if I feel that I just have to kill by taking a long shot then I might as well go get my gun. getting close is part of the challenge. if my opportunities are only 40+ yards then I need to get better as an archery hunter. but to each their own opinion. everyone can do what they want. that is what makes America great.
Pretty soon we will have a “smart sight” that can read the body language of the deer and calculate how many inches it will drop before your arrow reaches it, Problem solved Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Very articulate and well reasoned retort... Except you are forgetting that the archer's skill is but part of the equation- the deer being another. Doesn't matter how good of an archer you are, or how fast your bow shoots; at 30-40 yards a deer has enough time to react to the noise or take an unexpected step and turn even a well executed shot into a maiming one. Over 40 yards and the archer's margin of error shrinks exponentially.
I have to agree with Justin here, I try to keep my shots inside of 20 whenever I can, even though I regularly practice out to 80 yards, half because the ethics and half for the thrill of being that close. I personally haven’t shot at a whitetail over 40 yards. That being said last year I had a young doe at 38 yards and she was able to completely duck my arrow. To each their own but I won’t be shooting over 40. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
That seems to be the point that is not being addressed other than saying "if the conditions are right" Sent from my SM-G930P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I think I read this all wrong the first time. Are you talking about Cabela's Big Game Hunter on X-Box? I think most of us are talking about real hunting, the kind that you prove to yourself that you are truly a woodsman and not a sociopath with little to no empathy for the animal you hunt but respect for it's life by trying to deliver a clean ethical shot so it suffers as little as possible.
After this thread Im hunting with a crossbow, shooting them in the head and then getting drunk. Probably just getting drunk first.
I 100% agree with Justin on this topic. (I would also not feel good about or post pics on the internet of an animal that I failed to recover in edible condition) An animal that is wasted isn’t recovered, it’s found dead. Like Justin said, way too many people want that pat on the back and congratulations It doesn’t matter what they have to do to get it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was an unintelligent post. It must have been tough, but you successfully managed to show a thorough display of incompetence in a few short lines. I don’t own an Xbox. I’ve been pretty successful and this argument didn’t need the petty school girl remarks. Grow up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
