Sorry maybe im beating a dead horse but im looking to shoot a bunch of does this late season so i want a broadhead that will last for multiple deer. Ive used rage exclusively and always had great success with them but never shot multiple deer with one. Suggestions?

Buy replacement blades. Change out the bent ones. Personally I usually just retire the head after a kill but I’m only allowed one tag a year and don’t always get one

Used to shoot rages but got tired of replacing them or the blades after every shot.

Switched to Montec G5 CS, as long as they don't hit rock they sharpen right back up in about 15 minutes. 6 heads will last me probably 8 or 9 seasons if I don't lose them anyway.

Slick tricks for ease of sharpening as well as replacing blades.

Muzzy 3 blades or NAP thunderheads

I retire all my arrows and broadhead after a kill though. Its not going to break my bank so why not.

How many does is a bunch to you anyway?

I shot 5 deer this season with the same NAP Doublecross... never sharpened the blades. That being said I prolly would at least sharpen the blades or change them out if Id do that again. after about the 3rd deer I could tell I didn't have quite the penetration that I did with the first one.

I don't reuse broadhead 'blades' for a couple of different reasons but if I was going to - I would probably focus on a fixed head that can be easily sharpened like the Montec or blades that can be easily and cheaply be replaced so like the Thunderheads, Muzzy's, etc....

VPA. Just touch them up after the previous kill and you are good to go. No need for replacement blades, easy to sharpen.

I second Slick Tricks. I put the same head through three deer and a coyote last year, looked brand new at the end of season. I never found the arrow from the buck I shot this year or I would be putting the same broadhead in the next one.

NAP Killzone. I resharpen blades after shooting and replace the sliding bolt when needed. I mark each head with a sharpie once I shoot one with it. I have one head that has 6 kills on it's resume.

Montec CS is a good fixed blade and easy to resharpen. They won't break the bank either. They hold an edge better and and are more durable than the regular Montec.

I would get away from Rage and buy the Killzone or the Spitfire

I've used RAGE since they came out. I've switched from the original to the chisel tip. I just change out the 2 blades after each deer. I don't trust the blades after they are dulled from hitting bones. JMO

I third slick tricks. I killed 1 coyote, 1 hog, and 2 deer this year with the same broadhead. Only minor touch ups were done between kills.

I posted more detail w/ pics in the "Broadhead Results" thread.

Obviously all of them died so this worked, but I would never shoot more than one deer with a broadhead that didn't have the blades resharpened or replaced. Broadheads kill quickly through causing hemorrhaging and blood loss. You do that the best by having super sharp blades which cleanly cut veins, arteries and organs on their way through the animal. A dull broadhead has a tendency to tear more than cut, which causes rough edges and promotes clotting and less blood loss. Additionally, they will have a tendency to push things out of the way rather than cut through them so they do less damage. Having a good, shaving-sharp broadhead is the best option 100% of the time.

With all of that said, if you're looking to shoot a bunch of deer with the same head I would go with a small fixed-blade. The shorter ferrule will have less tendency to bend if you hit something on the way through, and the blades are much simpler to replace or resharpen when needed.

Only way I am re-using a head (without replacing blades or sharpening them) is if the thing ONLY touches skin, muscle and organs (ZERO bone) and that is it.......problem is almost always you will impact rib or some kind of bone and if I don't....the thing has blow through and hit dirt (dull city).

So seeing as how the above will NEVER happen I will keep on always replacing my Slick Trick blades and checking the ferrule.

I will re-use ferrules but not blades. They are "replaceable" for a reason.
