Hunted my butt off early archery and couldn't get a older buck up close. Gun season this buck came up to me to 10 yards. After Sunday I'll be bowhunting our late season all of Dec. Hopefully I'll still be able to get it done. IMG_1182.JPG

Nice buck, I’m in a similar situation hunted the most i have ever hunted in a season passed on some smaller deer early. Now I’m thinking that might be a mistake still got a couple weeks left.

Had a pretty good week this week. Started the week in West Virginia rifle hunting with my family and was able to tag out opening day on a good buck and a doe. Then I went out with the bow here in Ohio this morning and was able to tag a doe! [IMG][IMG]

Does anyone have suggestions for ways to find hunting leases any good sites you use? I’m looking to find a place in Illinois for next year.

Whitetail properties or Base Campe Leasing is supposed to be a really good one

Quick update guys. Going to do this in a few post to keep it all separate. Had my most memorable season by far this past few weeks, but unfortunately for the team everything killed was with a shotgun.

Started off shooting this guy on public land in Indiana. Got to share the hunt with my dad so made it extra special.

I was then able to shoot a big doe. Got the whole family out there for the “blood track” (saw her fall in the cut corn field). First time bringing our 7 month out on a deer hunting expedition and brought the nephews along as well on there first track job. Needless to say it was an awesome experience and won’t forget it soon.[IMG]

The following morning I got up and for some reason was in no hurry. Took my time, fed the little man, and headed for the stand right around shooting light (very unlike me. I’m usually the type that has to be in before light or not going on the morning hunt).
Didn’t know where I was going to hunt. Had three good options with the wind and for some reason drove by the one I probably would have normally went to and went to the next woods. Walking in I had two good stand options, the field was very frosty and crunchy so decided to head to the first tree stand that was farther in from the field but it was the first one you walk by and I was hoping the leaves in the woods wouldn’t be as load. Slipped in quietly and was in the stand for about 1/2 hour when I saw some deer through a whole bunch of thick stuff 75 yards away or so. The few times I could see a head they were all does. They stayed there and milled around/ bedded down. All of a sudden a buck is walking in on the does from my left. Within three second I realize shooter, shoot, and drop him in his tracks at about 50 yards.
I went and got the wife and little one and we go to recover my number one hitlister. Oldest deer I know of in any of the woods I hunt. He is at least 5.5 and I think 6.5. Just an awesome hunt, amazing time recovering, all to cap an awesome year!

Man that is a way to cap the season for sure! Awesome deer man. I've been so burnt out I haven't hunted the last two weeks. That's changing though, getting a new bow this weekend!

Great bucks and pics Packerfan! Looks like you had a great time with your family!

Warm weather, muzzleloader season, this weekend last antler less rifle season , have been keeping me out of the woods. Starting monday will be bow only, I'll be out most afternoons.

Well it’s 12 degrees this morning and I think my 73 acres of standing beans should be drawing the deer in this weekend kind of excited to hunt in the cold and kind of dreading it if a big one steps out all the freezing will be worth it there’s at least one I’d like to get running around on my lease saw him last weekend he’s a real nice 8

    Good luck!

Cold and snow with a good food source can make for great hunting this time of year.
