I had a killer buck 15 yards away thismorning but it was to dark yet. Another 20 minutes and I would have been tracking right now. I had another smaller buck 75 yards off an hour later but that's it. I am back in the stand for the evening sit. I am sitting where 5 funnles merge. It is mostly open fields with the funnles being deeeeeep draws with timber in them. This propert has awesome potential.

Ok time to get off the blackberry and hunt!

    What an emotional day.

Friday I left work early, went home and got my son and we headed to Kentucky. We were to meet my mom and step dad there. That evening we mapped out our plans for Saturday morning.

Saturday morning we got to our stands 1/2 hour early. 10 minutes before shooting light I hear something cross the creek to my right. As I look back I can see a faint outline of a deer 10 yards behind me. Come to find out its the big buck on that property because he walked infront of my stepdad and he was able to make him out but still to dark to shoot. That morning we each saw another buck, his larger then mine but mine was a non shooter and he didnt take his as well. Saturday evening was a dud.

Then comes Sunday morning. The morning started slow. The someone flipped the switch and the deer started moving. First I had a small goofy rack buck to my left, no shot. Then behind me 2 doe snuck in. I stood up and decided to go for the lead doe. I released the arrow, clean miss. Then I realized she was 10 yards further then I expected, so I quickly got another arrow. I made the "baahh" sound with my mouth and she turned around and went right back to where I shot the first time and stopped. I pulled back the bow, released...THWACK! I saw the fletching sticking out of her only a few inches so I had decent penetration. We waited a bit, got down and met up. We decided to hop on the 4-wheeler and head back to the truck to gather for a tracking job.

Blood was easy to find at first then in trickled off within 100 yards. I found the end of my arrow within 20 yards of the shot.

After a couple hours anger started to set in. We walked all over that property. Grid searched every place we could stick our head into. The property didn't have a whole lot of timber but a ton of thorns and briars. Right now I am covered in cuts, scrapes and fragments of thorns still embedded in my skin. I walked creek bottoms, drainage and hillsides. Nothing. I failed at the recovery of this doe but I gave her my all. We both had to leave for home due to the long drive. On the 5 hour drive home disappointment set in hard. I called and apologized the conditions I had put my step dad through today but he was very understanding.

I thought for sure I had my first bow deer today. Almost.

Joe, I've been there more times than I'd care to admit. From the picture of the arrow, there's a dead doe there somewhere.

I have ran the shot over and over. I knew it was a bit higher then I would have liked, but it is possible it hit just behind the lung. But it would have been very very close to it.

Bloodcrick........ Congrats On An AWESOME BUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I havent been around here much but between work and hunting hard Free Time has been a luxury I have had way to little of.
So I had to take the morning off to sleep.... I only had 14 hours sleep in the last 72 hours... sucks cause its an awesome morning here.... 32 degrees, hard frost sunny and no wind and the Big Bucks are chasing the Doe's here.
I did get this doe fawn yesterday am after hitting a twig ( the shot was Liver and Gut ) and she only went 27 yards... and passed on the same buck twice ( not a shooter ) and passed on 2 big Doe's I wanted to leave the big Doe's for the bucks to chase ;)
I will be back at it again tommorrow am.
    Good Luck Everyone !!

What a day. I wont go into full details, but I saw a TON of deer. Four shooter bucks, couple smaller bucks, and many doe.

    A brief overview...

-Top section of climber slid and hit the bottom section to scare off shooter buck #1

-I climb down at 11:30 to relieve my bladder and change location. Shooter buck #2 walks in during the relieving process and stands infront of me at 10 yards.

-Spot 2 horse back riders twice as they talked loudly during their ride.

-Fell in the creek going after my arrow (dont ask)
