Anyone have a guess or range on what the approximate value is of one year old bean seed that is bagged? Bulk this years certified seed was about $1.00 per pound according to farmer I am working with. Trying to come up with a fair value. Thanks.

Well to be fair, it's basically worth about market value of a bushel of beans. That's because there is no reliable germ test on it now and no way to know what percentage is still viable to grow. Buyer is taking all the risk to plant it so it's not valuable seed any longer. Now, I'm sure the seed owner will say something like, "Oh well it's fine, it will usually grow just as well as it would have last year"...but that's an unknown for the buyer. I've seen people give it away to food plotters so there's that. Don't pay $1.00/pound for it...or at least I wouldn't. If you're desperate for seed and feel it was stored well and are willing to pay more than grain market price then I wouldn't pay more than half of new seed cost and that's still $30/bushel (compared to your $1/pound claim).
Grain market price right now is about $8.14 local price which is about .14 cents per pound.

I concur with Covey...we nearly did this one year and local grain guy said he'd never go over 50% market value of new seed.

Thanks guys. NWTF sells for $15-25 per bag so that would be just under half price.

Probably be fine, I would imagine they have a pretty good grasp on storing beans properly and are pretty reputable. Not quite like buying off of farmer Bob with a leaky shed, lol.

If you like Miller Lite, that's one helluva deal!! Since you're up there in IA you'll have to make it "red" beer, pass the tomato juice.

Miller lite is champagne to most locals. True rural Iowans drink Busch Light

Meh...who needs beer, I'll take cash. Anyone interested I have cleaned beans for $30/bushel that are fresh. You just have to sign a waiver that they are for wildlife feed and not for cash crop.:tu:

There are not to many farmers around that won't sell beans from a bin for $10 a bag. That is more then they would get on the market. There are a lot of benefits to bin beans like knowing they are fresh.
