I just moved to Missouri, as the title states, and I'm looking for some help getting started. Lived and hunted in Illinois all my life. I moved to Steelville/Cuba area. Anyone from around this area willing to help a guy get set up with some options for places to hunt? Pointers on public land? Any advice appreciated Definitely going to be a new adventure! I'm used to hunting farmland. Very little farmland in this area, mostly rocks and hills. Thanks in advance for any help
Wish I could help but I live and hunt NW Missouri. We're predominately ag up here also. It's beautiful country down there. Anyone that's used to hunting big timber should be able to give you some pointers.
I'm originally from MI but hunt in NC now, so no help there. I have a buddy from your area that I'll ask tomorrow. Wish I had more help to offer atm.
You're right down there in the Mark Twain NF area. Plenty of public hunting down there. Be ready to walk alot of hills. Try to find some of the smaller conservation areas in that area. They tend to get over looked regularly within close proximity to large tracts of public hunting grounds. And be ready for some more hills!!! Also not hunting related, but you're in an area that offers great stream fishing and very nice floats.
Yeah, I saw the mark Twain area on the map. Figured it would be overrun with hunters. At least I have plenty of time before season starts lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Just wanted to say congrats on moving from one great whitetail state to another, and not to somewhere like NY/PA!! Good luck this season.
Thanks! I hope you're right. I know it's an odd time of year, but I haven't seen a deer anywhere around here yet Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Nobody? Anybody? Even a local Archery range? Nobody I've talked to yet shoots a bow. Pretty depressing Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I got a buddy who lives down in Steelville. We did some bow hunting up north together. There was an archery shop down there but I believe it closed last year.
Yeah, that seems to be a trend here in Missouri the last few seasons. Hell any kinda of mom and pop shops in the country for that matter. But if you find your way up near St.louis in the evenings, I'll treat you to a dart shoot at the shop I go to.
