Homemade targets?

Does anyone know how to make a good, inexpensive homemade target. I just got my first bow yesterday and I don't have much money to spend on a target. These targets cost so much and I only have about $25 to spend on a target now. I know I have heard of people using hay bails but I'm not sure how good those are. Someone give me some insight on this please. Thanks

Stuff a box or burlap sack with old clothes. It will work for quite a while and the cloth is reusable once the outside container is shot out.

I got a large cardboard box and a block of organic insulation (the kind with no fiber glass in it). Then I just taped a couple rags to
The block of insulation and put it in the cardboard box. Perfect fit and cheap!

I took a big cardboard box from a freezer. I stuffed it with smaller boxes and the styrofoam packaging from in the boxes. Cost me nothing.

At fleem farm or a farm type store you can purchase a small hay bales(rectangles) that is packed super tight and will stop an arrow well. I have 2 behind my deer target, which is covered with snow or i would attach a picture.

 

Lots of excess cardboard to recycle each year.

You can get foam blocks from Tractor Supply. They use them for shipment of trailers. I got mine for free.

Yeah, I get construction debris bags from Lowes for $9 each and fill them with clothes.

 

Dog food bag filled with old clothes. Remove zippers and buttons. Old carpet. Just cut into 3 ft wide strips and roll up tight and tie with rope. Most carpet stores will give it to you.

This is what I do, only I use left over 50# seed bags from filling my bird feeders. When the bag wears out, I swap the clothes into a new one.

 

When I travel for hunts I'll make up a target at the resort or hotel I'm staying at out of a cardboard box layered with newspapers and old rags inside.

DIY: Lifetime Archery Target

 

I shoot at straw bales. With a 2" thick piece of Styrofoam as the main target. I have 4 bales. 3 stacked on top of each other. And one standing on end in front of the 3. I think I paid less than $5 per bale.

Puzzle Foam that you can buy at Kmart or Walmart, the back one covered by a tarp is dock foam.
