Maybe a silly question, but do mule deer snort/blow like whitetails do? I was watching a show where they were hunting muleys, and I could have sworn I heard one snort? Thanks for any insight.
I agree with elk guide; similar sounds but less frequent use of them. I have rarely heard anything other than a Mule Buck grunt. Time it right, and they will respond like a white-tail. Be less aggressive and less frequent in calling. I usually don't unless I see a buck tending a doe. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Mature buck will grunt a lot during the rut when he enters a group where there is a doe in heat. And I have heard yearlings make a lot of sounds when they are alone. And a mature buck responds ok to rattling.
My Son bought a deer call several years ago and we used it while bow hunting on the Beaver unit above Monroe about 20 years ago. It called in several doe's and really created a curiosity with them. Haven't had any success with it since. It may have been the area, don't know. Haven't hunted the Beaver unit since then, but have tried it in others areas I have hunted without any success. Still have it, but use it mostly as a horn when riding my ATV any more. Not sure why it worked that one year and not since.
