I live in St. Paul, MN right now. Some Mississippi backwaters not too far from here where people ice fish. Thinking about giving them a try. Definitely will be smart on that ice though.

I'm heading up to leech lake this weekend the 10-13th. Looking at the upcoming forecast there looks to be a 30 degree warm up from Thursday to Friday. I guess what my question is what do you think this drastic temperature change is going to do to the fish ? Will it turn them on? Off? Or no change ?

That's what I'm hoping for, but I feel I'm hyping it up in my head just to be let down if it doesn't pan out. But hey guess that's fishing.

I'm really hoping to make it out but 55° with the permanent is just a little sketchy for me.

It's still going to hit freezing temps at night isn't it ? I couldn't imagine losing much ice but I can't say I blame you...

Yes it is. I hate soft ice on top though.

I'll be up on Leech this weekend as well, same dates as you. I will let you know how we are doing (reports have not been good).

Sounds great I'll return the favor. I've gotten similar reports but I'm hopeful with this warm up that it will turn on the bite. I'll be around the pine point area.

Average walleye is about 20-24" with the biggest coming in at 27.5"

We haven't ran into any big big ones yet.

Not 100% sure where we will be yet. Most likely Cedar Point to start.

We did really really well on the north side of Pine Point this summer and late ice last year. Might head over there to find some jumbos. I'll shoot you a PM with my number.

With this forecast I'm going to do some shed hunting instead this weekend.

Nice! We've only had fishable ice for about five days here, and I wasn't able to get out.

But I did manage to catch this today LOL

Good luck. I walked 4.35 miles according to MapMyRun app on Thursday and came up empty handed.
