Possibility of moving to northeastern Mississippi just across the border from Memphis and wondering how the hunting is. Grew up in Minnesota and currently living in Kansas I figure they will probably be a bit smaller but still looking to hear from folks that live down there.

I live in central Mississippi and most of the Bucks are in that 130 range but you do have those occasions of the 150 and 160. One thing for sure the state is very populated. Doe to buck ratio is way out of whack. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 does per 1 buck.

Bag limit is crazy too. We don't have a tagging system you are allowed 5 does and 3 bucks.

Scratch that northwestern. But anyway. What would you say for an average body size it's. Cause the few years I spent in North Carolina their deer looked like Great Danes, or slightly smaller.

Mature doe 120 buck 200. In the Delta region along the Mississippi River weights go up. 150 does 250 bucks.

Pretty much sounds like everywhere I've ever hunted. Well I appreciate the insight, I'm looking forward to making a trip down that way within the next couple months just to start checking things out in case I move.

Probably experience more timber and swamp hunting. Be ready for gnats and mosquitoes. Can be really hot in October.

That's about the only thing I'm really not looking forward to. But I've dealt with big mosquitos in MN, gnats however is a different story.

Might try Thermcell. They didn't have that 20 years ago.

I live in north Mississippi and the body size just isn't that big, u can get away with a big expendable as long as it isn't a shoulder shot. There are some pretty big deer running Around but I'm a meat hunter and there are no tags so you can fill that freezer.

Are you saying you kill more than your limit because there are no tags (i.e. An honor system)?
