Out of say 300 kills on this site, there are only 6-10 pass through shots?

I believe it is less the broadhead and more the arrow set up (weight, FOC and such). Granted head plays a role though no doubt.

 

I get many pass thrus with my Mathews Halon w/ Spitfire Maxx arrows. It all depends on where I hit them. I many times get the opposite shoulder and they die very quickly and close by. Never an issue either way.

 

the day my halon 32 don't get a pass though will be a day probably won't see shoot rage hypodermic get great penetration and wouldn't have a problem passing through a deer even if I did hit it in the shoulder blade had an old Jennings Buckmaster that I would get pass through with nothing like the Beast I have now. good shot placement is critical

Whether he was a troll or not, this thread has helped me. I'm a NEWBIE NEWBIE. Shopping for my first bow now so I'll be prepared and ready by September. Finally got on board with having 2 extra months of hunting season with a bow vs gun!

Anyway....as a newbie, i appreciate the discussion and education. My GF and I are bing watching BHOD. We're halfway through Season 4.

 

I shoot a Mathews ChillR last year I shot a healthy mature doe with it the last day I was able to hunt she was standing broadside at 22 yds and i blasted straight through both shoulders and the arrow stuck in the ground on the other side. I think it has alot to do with your arrow set up. Alot of guys trend toward speed and go with a light hunting arrow with a broad head that has a 2" cutting surface. All that drag on a light shaft is bound to slow an arrow down. If more people used a heavier arrow I think this issue would halt fairly quickly. my arrow is close to 500 grains total. That combined with a high IBO dual cam bow is a recipe for a wind tunnel IMO!

 

I'm betting you don't want compare hours "afield"....

 

It's not just about getting the pass through, it's all about the amount of damage and vital laceration you can cause inside the animal, other wise known as sharp broad heads and proper shot placement.

P.S. shoot NAP broad heads and you will have no issues

I shoot easton FMJ 400, which is at 28" and I shoot kill zone heads, I have a 27.5" draw and my bow is at 65lbs, shot two deer at 20-30yards (clean through) and one at 63 yards (only did not go through because it was stuck half way through the shoulder and poking out the other side. All three deer were hit perfectly in the lungs where you want it. I get way more thump and penetration which my heavier setup than when I was shooting lighter arrows
