One more piece of advice I give to soon to be new fathers. When it is time to head to the hospital for the delivery, do not wear your good shoes, do Not look down there you will see your happy place looking like an inside out catchers mitt.

it will be watching hunting on weekends to watching Mickey Mouse club house way to soon. I have a soon to be five year old boy and a one year old girl. I took him out hunting with me this year and it was a blast.

Couldn't have said it any better, great advice above. Had kids in my early 20's now they are in college, and its all I can do to get them in the woods anymore, so me and mama go on hunting trips / shopping spree's. The good news is my daughters have learned how a good man should carry himself, and to treat women with respect. Enjoy your new family its all you got

Thanks everyone for the advice! I can't help but think about the future and having him or here in the blind with me or a two man ladder stand! My wife isn't a hunter, I could never get her into the woods, so a hunting buddy would be nice! Children are a blessing and the memories last a lifetime, I have my 3 nieces and one nephew to get into the outdoors too. Family comes first is what I was taught.

Just what we need, more hunters in the future! Congrats man! You'll find time, but it will be less. Good luck!

Well, began baby proofing the house this past weekend. Invested in a Liberty gun safe, 24 gun, with room for expansion as the child grows and hopefully takes the interest in hunting with dad!

Congrats. Just had first child last April. You will enjoy it. Time will be more limited, but with an understanding wife you will be fine.

Just remember to try to give your wife help and give her some time alone also if she wants it. Just offering goes a long ways. My wife wouldn't leave our son for quite awhile, but I would still offer. Offer extra help before going hunting. Women during pregnancy and after are emotional creatures. Can't say I blame them....pregnancy didn't look like a walk in the park.

Your wife or both of you will probably be up every couple hours when you first get home so don't plan a lot of hunting in the very beginning. You'll both fee better if you help each other out. Sleep becomes a challenge sometimes.

Best of luck and congratulations. You'll have time to hunt.

Congratulations, it is the best thing that will ever happen in life. I had my son (only child)Dec. 2015, it has flown by. The first year is really the best, and having him lay on your chest is the best feeling ever, plus it puts you into nap mode too. My son is really good, I got really lucky that he is pretty laid backed. I bought his lifetime sportsman license, fingers crossed he takes up hunting/fishing.

Congrats! I like the advice about sharing time off/away with the wife...She needs it too. Seriously, sleep will be a high priority & hunting won't be missed as badly as you might think. Thinking back, some of my favorite times with my kids when they were still too small to hunt, was watching hunting videos where I could pause & have them find the hidden deer or turkey before it got center screen. You'll find most your activities include your new little buddy, so it'll be different, but it'll be great! Like you said, family first (very wise young man)
