Is there any difference or is it just brand? Want a drop away rest for my new bow but kinda new to the whole compound thing. What's the deal with them and how do they work?

I have a QAD Ultra, but I'm not sure it's any better than the rip cords. I've heard prod say that some major companies' fall away rests are not what they profess to be, but I don't know which ones they were referring to.
There are others from NAP and Hamskea. The Hamskea is limb driven, which some say is more long term reliable than cable driven.

I've shot both the qad hands down is way better stays cocked when you let down rip cord doesn't also it alot easier to cocked the qad it quieter and the warranty for qad top notch I had one for 9 years worked flawless it started to stick a little after being shot it would stick down they sent me a brand new one no questions asked and it came in 4 days that awesome warranty you also don't get felt with a rip cord it's just the plastic launcher so makes the arrow louder during the draw cycle as it slides against the launcher. Qad hdx is the way to go In my opinion it's the best rest on the market and I've shot a ton of rests

Never shot the Ripcord but I've had 2 QAD's and they've been great. BuckEyeJay mentioned the rip cord doesn't stay cocked and if it doesn't, this should be a big deciding factor. As he said the QAD stays up even when you let off your draw so the arrow doesn't fall out. This is the best feature of the QAD for me. Nock and arrow and it's ready to go. Great feature for stalking.

I use both QAD's and SmackDowns. Love them both.

Had 2 QAD's and both have worked great. Have no experience with Ripcords but if they do not stay cocked I would not like nor use it for that reason.

I had a Ripcord for a few years... one day the cord itself broke where it is connected to the rest. I was in my tree starting an afternoon hunt... I drew back to make sure everything was working ok and I heard a pop.
I came home and put my Whisker Biscuit back on to get me through.
I now have a QAD and liked it this past season.

    Both are great.

I have used the same Ripcord for 6 years no problems at all.

Does your Ripcord stay up when you let your draw down? That seems to be the big knock on them.

Ripcord Ace stays up on let down....a feature I do not need. I can draw and let my bow down without any issues. If I let down it goes down. When I draw again it goes up. Very simple. QAD needs to be cocked up to function. Just more stuff to break. I had 2 QAD fail. And the were very loud. No QAD for me again. I had no issue with Ripcord Code Red, just a little loud. Now NAP Apache Carbon on my bows. I am very happy.

I had a QAD rest fail also. I like the ripcord because no matter what it drops. Micro adjust on the ripcord ace is nice also.

Okay, I've decided to get a QAD. What is the difference in the different models, and what do you guys recommend?

I have the QAD ultra rest specific for PSE bows. QAD makes several that are bow specific. It has basically micro adjustments for wind age and elevation, but has a fixed mounting position (rather than slotted hole) for mounting it to the riser.

I am also a member of Archery Talk and there are more reports of QAD issues than Ripcord. As noted, the Ripcord ACE stays up on letdown and I shot one for a while, but I do NOT see that as a deal breaker by any stretch since the Ripcord Code Red has metal internal parts vs. plastic of QAD. More than once I drew on a deer and let down with a Code Red with no problems. I have been shooting Trophy Taker XFC rests since early summer of 2016 and like them very much for several reasons. However that was not part of the initial thread focus so I will be done.

Hey guys another question here, how do I know if a certain rest will fit on my bow, I see that QAD makes different designs for different bows, but I can't find any for my bow.

Both the Smackdown Pro and the XFC are very simple to setup and operate.....plus they are very quiet. They rise during the draw and drop on the shot, which QAD users would apparently find an outrage because they go down on a letdown as well. The XFC that I shoot attaches to the down cable like a Ripcord while the Smackdown is limb driven. One of my hunting friends shoots the Smackdown on one of his bows and really likes it as well. A great feature is that you don't have to disassemble a thing to change out the activation cord.....unlike the Ripcord style rest.
