This is one think i just can't understand at all. Why is it so hard to wear a harness? There is just no excuse to not wear one. i can be stubborn but i want to go home to my family so i always wear mine anytime my feet leave the ground. This shouldnt be such a big issue just put on a harness.
I found "20% while attaching the stand" to be an interesting number. I thought it actually might have been higher. With the linesman belts widely available now, I don't worry much about my process for attaching hang-on stands. However, my process for attaching ladder stands leaves a little to be desired. I use the ropes provided by the manufacturer to keep it from pulling away from the tree and always bring a buddy to lean against the ladder and provide moral support. But there must be a better way. I use a pulley to pull up ladder stands then use an aluminum extension ladder to strap in the stand. There is no way I would use sticks and platform stands.
Wearing a harness is no different than wearing a seat belt. Nonetheless I know guys who don't wear either. I've probably given away 3 of 4 harnesses and know none are worn. Also, don't think you have to fall 20 feet to hurt yourself. I've handled cases involving industrial accidents where people fell less than 6 and died.
It really isn't all that shocking if you think about it. Archery seasons are longer thus more climbs. Alot of rifle hunters don't even use tree stands. It's just numbers, preventable numbers but still numbers.
Worked a tree stand accident years go where the guy died and could see the backdoor of his house from where he laid and bleed to death. Just got in a hurry and carried his bow down but fell and was cut badly. No cell phone... no one knew he was hunting... nothing but he did not come home that night and a search resulted. If you are going out there tell someone. When, where, how long and who may be with you. Really cuts down on searching for you. Sometimes chit happens even to the most careful.
I don't really understand why you wouldn't put on your harness... I will walk back to the truck if I forget to put mine on. BowHunters Only Like and share
