I've got a 2000 HCA Premier Pro 60 -70#, 39 ATA and about a 9" brace height. I really like my bow and it has served me well, but I feel like I need to catch up with all the technology. Now my budget is around 500, so I am thinking I will be looking for a used bow. In a little bit od searching, I have found the PSE EVO and a Z7. I would like to get a ATA around 32", and stay in the 60-70# range. What suggestions have you?
Understand working on a budget. Do you know anyone that has either one of those bows that you can shoot to get a feel for them? Personally I am very leary about buying a bow that I can't shoot first because fit and feel are key for me.
Great time to start looking. I like shooting a bow first to see how it fits me. I can't get comfortable with either of the two bows you mention but that is me. Some shops take used bows in on trade or concession and there is always that AWFUL place/site (AT) that is good for just the for sale section.
If you are used to a 39"ata bow with a 9' brace height, I suggest you look for a bow with similar specs. You won't likely find the 9' brace height, but bows with a longer 37"+ ata and 7"+ brace height should be on your list. You will likely have a problem getting used to a shorter bow.
Yep, going to have to get and handle some bows. The grip on my HC is what sold me on my bow. Also just spent some time on ebay, and there are some pretty good looking deals there. Well, I have plenty of time.
The Matthews Z7 is a great bow but I do believe ata is only 30" with brace height of 7". A great hunting bow.
I was hoping to be able to be happy with a shorter ATA than I have now. I did get to shoot a Diamond Infinite edge he other day, and that grip did not fit me well at all.
I would definitely go a bit shorter than 39", but I wouldn't recommend going all the way down to below 35". I was in the same boat as you, got used to many years with a very long bow, and now I can't shoot a "hunting" bow to save my life! I shoot a 37" Sentinel and have no problems at all with it being too long for hunting. I actually have to sell them because I need to drop down from 60lb to 50lb, due to bum shoulders/neck.
Wow. Like going from a horse and buggy to a horseless carriage. :-) Take a look at Parker. They make a good bow for the price point.
Yea, my first compound was a Darton from 80's. My theory is to get a new bow every 15 years and be amazed! So ruck, taking your point, I am going to have to shoot some 32"ish ata bows and see.
